So how does Origin work?

It's another digital delivery platform like steam, but run by EA. Can't link steam to origin AFAIK.

I believe it is fairly common for Origin games to not require that origin is running to play them, unlike on steam where it is rare. That said, I recently found that this is a choice on the part of each developer for every game on steam, I assume this DRM costs the devs.
