[2142] Can't load maps

Anyone else having trouble loading BF2142 maps? I'm getting to around two thirds of the way through the loading bar and then it just stops. Stays that way for at least 15 minutes... I can get out by killing the application but that's it.

Any ideas?

I have sort of the same problem, although mine crashes to desktop Vista tells me there was a write to memory error during the map load ....

it works 50% of the time, i have to restart the app, maybe ( if you've got XP Ronin ? cant remember ) thats the issue you have just XP dosn't deal with it in the same way

Just ried on 4 different titan/assault line maps and had no problems. Was it issues with conquest maps, maybe its divine intervention to lead you towards the light of the titan servers. If not then sorry no ideas from elBob seems fine my end, also no one form 2142 clan have mentioned it, i dunno.

Whenever I change some graphics settings, and have to optimise my shaders in game, my loading bar usually gets about two thirds of the way through (between 62% and 75%), and hangs for a few minutes (while it does all the magic), and then carries on. If this is the same point for everyone, that I'm thinking that maybe your shaders are causing the problem. Try manually deleting ALL your shader settings. Do so by:

If not, then it looks like a re-install, assuming you have tried loading maps on different servers and locally?

As for you Traxata, TweakGuides.com has information on Vista 2142 problems (4th paragraph) and a general TweakGuides companion for Vista (which is a download). Never used the companion myself, but have heard ok things about it.

Sorry if this sounds like an advert, but it really isn't! The guy who runs the site says that you can copy paragraphs from him and link to him, as long as you give credit, which I agree with!

Yeah, I've tried manually deleting my local cache, which didn't help (though it clearly was working on optimising shaders... but then it froze up just as "normal").

I've tried multiple servers, both Conquest and Titan, to no avail.

I'll try a local server and see if that helps.

I have, however, had a few crashes (BSoD variety) while playing 2142 so maybe my stupid machine has corrupted something. If the local server doesn't work, or if it doesn't help with the multiplayer servers, I'll try uninstall/reinstall and see where I get to.

I had a similar problem.

I fixed it by trashing the whole BF2142 directory that's in your Documents and Settings folder. This will reset ALL settings (so you have to set em all again) and remove ALL cached files (meaning it will re-optimize shaders). After doing this it loadeed up fine. I think you will find that were you to alt-tab out there will be a dialog box saying something about a memory error... I checked my memry and it was fine so that was the next step :)

I hate people having issues with 2142, just gives others ammo to further discredit it. :(.
I've had a word with my clan and a few others we are friendly with and no one else seems to have had anything happen. It might be worth re-patching, you never know when things like this can magically resolve themselves. next to that i guess its a re-install i'm afraid.

Still no workie. :(

Here are the things I've tried:

  • Delete my cache folder contents.
  • Delete my the contents of my BF2142 folder in My Documents.
  • Reinstall the patch.

No joy on any. I can load into a single player game but the game freezes around 10 seconds in. I can't even load a multiplayer game.

I'll burn my 2142 install and try fresh.

At last! A complete reinstall and repatch has worked. Must have corrupted something in one of my crashes.
