Dear Friend, BUSINESS INVESTMENT

I would like to apply through this medium for your co-operation and to secure an oppoturnity to invest and do joint business with you in your country.First,I must solicit your strictest confidence in this transaction and I believe that my desicion to contact you will be giving genuine approval considering the fact we have not meet before.

I am David Lamin the first son of Mr James Lamin who was the former minister of finance in DR Congo Africa. My father had a bullet shot by the rebel{West side boys}on his way travelling to Eastern Congo Kasai after Kigali the capital along with my sister. My sister died at the spot while the U.N.peace keeping force rescue my unconcious father. He was later conveyed to Abidjan capital of Cote D Ivoire for medical treatment which he later died about one year now.

While he was in the sick bed,He confided to me and my mother that he has one trunk box that contained Fifteen Million Dollars which he deposited at a security company in Ghana putting my name as his nest of kin.My father deposited this one trunk box as family precious item to avoid the official from raising eyebrow.

Presently,I am in Ghana to confront and notify the security company for claim and I was told to get a lawyer who will sign for me and my mother to sign too.I have all the vital documents that covered the deposit which I can send to you on request. My plan is to use part of the money to purchase a residential accomodation and invest in a profitable business venture in your country.

My mother and I have decided to give you 15% of the total amount if you agree to be our foreign partner.I have never disclose this to anybody apart from you so keep it confidential. Right now I am staying at the refugee camp in Ghana. If you are willing to assist me,Kindly reply me and send me your private phone and fax number for more information.

Yours faithfully
David Lamin

Very interesting mail, this could be fun. :D I suck at writing letters but here's some of the things that raise questions in his mail:
  • Yamoussoukro is actually the official capital of Ivory Coast, though Abidjan is the largest city where everything happens, so that would be nitpicking.
  • A google search for "james lamin" congo turns up nothing. (i would love to see his excuse for that one)
  • If his father was minister of finance and now has a hidden stash of 15 million, wouldn't it just be money belonging to the state of Congo, obtained through fraud?
  • How does he have a phone and fax in a refugee camp? (okay, these could be shared lines). The only refugee camp in Ghana google could find is Budumburam, the images look like they may have phones in there. But the refugees are from Liberia.
One thing you could do is feign ignorance and demand the promised 15% of 15 million first, then agree to be his foreign partner and help him and the rest of the money out of ghana once you have your payment, or demand 50% of it up front. And of course you should ask to see these documents along with a picture of mr lamin. :)

Also, oh snap!, you're getting ripped off! Look at this! The daughter of a former minister of daimond mining cooperation is offering a 20% cut for the exact same thing! And she's offering it to the entire pear mailing list! You'd better demand a bigger cut.

And once again, be sure to [ab]use caps lock in the process.

Waterproofbob, i've deleted them for you now but next time Press Edit, click "go advanced", you should then be able to delete your own posts. If you want to add something later and you're the last poster it's also better to edit your post than write another, doubleposts go against forum etiquette. :) I also doubt they have access to the latest hardware in refugee camps, but perhaps you could start an Alienware store in Budumburam, it may be just the thing liberian refugees need to get their lives back on track, who knows.

Big_D, diamonds from liberia eh... I kindly redirect you here.

Does anyone actually have a clue if these scammers themselves can be toyed with? I remember seeing a webpage of someone tricking a scammer into doing the wierdest things, and send back some pictures of it, but that was long ago.

Bacicly its know as the "Nigerian mailScam" A old, tested and still effektive way of parting fools form their money.

he Nigerian scam is hugely successful. According to a 1997 newspaper article:
"We have confirmed losses just in the United States of over $100 million in the last 15 months," said Special Agent James Caldwell, of the Secret Service financial crimes division. "And that's just the ones we know of. We figure a lot of people don't report them."
