I said it in the thread title, but I'll say it again here to make sure:
If you do not like spoilers of any kind, do not read this thread!
Right, that said:
I might've been taking a break from playing WoW lately, but I've not stopped watching the progress of the PTRs lately, and whilst managing to avoid some spoilers, I've read up as much as I could on some others, and found one thing particularly interesting:
In the third of the new 5-man instances that are being added ("The Halls of Reflection"), Jaina or Sylvanas (based on your faction) comes into contact with Frostmourne, and through it manages to speak to the spirit of Uther, who reveals something that'll be pivotal to the closing of this expansion.
Basically, he says that if the Lich King is killed and nobody takes his place, the Scourge won't just keel over and die in a nice, tidy fashion, but would just become an unchecked, uncontrolled force of destruction and would ravage the world like a plague of locusts; the Lich King doesn't maintain their existence, he just keeps them under control. He goes on to point out that because of this, when Arthas is defeated, someone else must take his place in order to keep the Scourge under control and prevent them from wiping out all life.
So what I've been thinking is; who's going to take over the reins after we beat Arthas at the end of Icecrown? Or will we even truly defeat him?
Speculation time, go go!
