A Tale In The Desert

Hey, :)

Yea, so, that...

Has anyone checked it out, yet? Any thoughts, positive or negative?

I ask because I've always been deeply curious about it, and because, apparently, it runs on my wife's laptop, so it might be a good game to dabble with while trying to fall asleep or watching over the baby...

Cheers,
J.

I think I played it in the second telling (back when I was 14) and still have the t-shirt from it!

It was fun until a rather authoritarian group of players got control and made concentration camps for all the new players, forcing them to pick resources for them at the "welcoming islands."

I played as a mentor for new players which is why that irked me in particular, though I had the fun experience of someone thinking I was an NPC because my spelling was so good. ;)

Hey, :)

Well, in one of those long, sleepless nights of watching over the baby, I ended up downloading the thing and trying it out.

There are no more "welcoming islands".

I have found nothing but helpful and friendly people.

However, the game is an endless grind. :D Me, I find it oddly peaceful, but I venture than many, if not most folk here would find it trully dull and boring.

Also, the concept of guilds exists, but you can be a part of as many as you want, whereas it's the guilds themselves that are limited as to the number of members they can have. If you want more members, you have to expand the guild hall, which then becomes more of the grind...

If anyone else wants to try it out, there's only one "shard", but there's different regions. I'm in Alcyone.

Cheers,
J.

Hehe, that doesn't surprise me, those happened in the second telling, back in 2004 (ah, when I was 14).

Aye, people were wonderful back when I played the game too, I ended up being too busy to play it regularly and when I came back after a month or two of being away things turned the way they did. There were also issues of people trying to pass laws that were completely stupid like one law that would have banned the building of houses within 100 kilometres of the main cities. . . .

It is an endless grind, aye. It's all about the collecting mud, then making mud bricks, building a mud house, then growing flax, collecting flax, using a loom to make flax rope, catching bees, making apiaries, collecting beeswax, that sort of thing. I got bored of it after a while, but it was really enjoyable when I was into it. :)

I have found my people.
Pirate, you so silly

OT: Downloaded and played it for a bit before going to bed (about now)
Looks interesting, but I will need a lot of time getting used to the pointy clicky controls.
"WHY IS WASD NOT WORKING!"
