So, who needs defcon, and how bad must fictional nuclear be for post apocalyptic nuclear war to be as we see it in games, movies and books.

Because this, especially 4:20 and 4:50, is fairly insane.

Notable that India, Pakistan, Russia and America do, by and large, keep their radiation to themselves. The French and British do theirs in Australia and Africa...

A lot of the French stuff went on in the pacific, places like Bikini Atoll

I too noticed that we seem to like blowing up Australia on the end summery. I was surprised at how fast France beat our number of Nuclear explosions after starting behind us.

Makes them feel important.

The reason GB and France did theirs elsewhere is lack of home real estate. Some of the highest population densities in the world.

Also note that the ones on home turf which were not in the USA/Russian wastelands are underground tests.
Something the british didn't care for much - without the fireworks there is no party.
Most nuclear testing is now done via supercomputer. Tis a sad day.
