Advice on a new PC

Well, I think it's about time that I 'bit the bullet' and bought myself my very own PC. Obviously, I need it for gaming but I have an absolute maximum budget of £600 and spending that would mean hunting for my own food for a couple of months. I don't want/need anything like word or excel or any of that crap, just purely for gaming and surfing the web. Any recommendations anyone?

Taffy, a good place to start would be Dell, as you can use their customising wizard thing.

What kind of specs are you looking for? What's your current specs? and would you be able to build one?

(secondly. there's free alternative's to word etc. but if you can find a trial version of MS Office Student Edition, I can give you a CD-Key :p )

Do you need a monitor as well? If so, I think you'll struggle to find a PC that'll handle current games for under £600. If you had £800 you could get a decent system from Novatech with a 17" TFT but any less and one part will suffer.

SgtFury has one of Novatech's PCs - I'm sure he'll provide an opinion on it.

The cheapest "decent" Dell is the 5150C, but the ATi X600 graphics card isn't up to much - with Doom 3 at 800x600 you'll get 30fps, FarCry about 35. However, some games won't run on it becasue of missing shaders and/or texture abilities.

I would definitely recommend Novatech... they are based very near me and tbh, I have never had a single problem with anything I have bought from them and I wouldn't go anywhere else. Now... for my recommendation... It's going to be difficult to get yourself a PC that will be able to run BF2 at a decent rate for £600... but if you can manage to stretch a bit then take a look at Novatech's Matrix Elite range, specifically the Matrix Elite 3200. You can get it with Windows XP Home pre installed for £561.65... but that DOES NOT include a monitor. Anything lower than this and you are getting a very shite integrated graphics card that probably won't be able to run BF2 at all... assuming you actually play BF2 that is :D
