[EVE] An awesome article about EVE

I know it's an IGN article, however, as the comments state and also as CCP themselves stated all over their social media channels, this is one of if not the best written articles on IGN. Read it. Be enlightened.

Eve is a wonderful game except for to get the most out of it you really do need to devote large amounts of time to it. Which is why I had to take the decision to quit. Still feel the nostalgia of it though and sometimes feel like resubbing

An interesting article which I enjoyed reading, thanks for passing on the link.

I tried playing eve for about a week, then tried 3 years later for a week, then tried 3 years after that for a week. The whole concept of the game I like, but as said by Juba to get the most from it you have to spend time and be very patient.

The game is very very slow, just going from one planet to another can take 15 minutes. I found that part particularly frustrating and would get agetated wanting to do something. Also the tiny text on a black background was making my eyes melt out my head - have they fixed that yet I wonder?

Maybe one day I will give it another week.

Gotta say EVE is one of the few games i keep revisiting, simply due to its depth and awesomeness, i disagree with some of the above, travelling to a planet does not take 15 mins :) even back in the days before warp to 0 existed it wasn't *that* slow, and to my knowledge, you've always had the option to change the text size :)

it is however a slow paced game and not everyone's cup of tea. i used to enjoy the pvp aspect and the chances of losing your ship/equip etc permanently, on the other hand my wife enjoyed spending hours sucking rocks while chatting away to corp mates etc. Its a game well worth trying if you haven't already imo

Not sure on the getting around thing, never had an issue with that myself. Certainly if you are hauling stuff around it takes a while but it's not all that often you have to do that.

They have recently changed the text font to make it much easier to read. There is also an option to increase the font size. You now have more options to scale the UI as well which may help.

So it might actually be playable on a TV now? Why the hell didn't they make a big deal of THAT in all these emails they keep sending me? I may actually have to give it a try again.

I should really have clarified the large amounts of time rather than put off people who might want to give it a go.

If you want to play the null sec game it takes up a huge amount of time and it is certainly not unusual for fleet ops to take up several hours and if you get into an alliance war it can tie up most of your free time for a month or more, been there bought the T Shirt

However if you do something like mission running which is eve pve you can quite easily drop in for an hour or two here and there. Same to a certain extent with industrial and exploration as long as you don't want to perform them in low sec

When I say that I meant, if you want to travel to a planet several jumps away. Am I still correct or has this been sorted as well?

This depends entirely what ship you are in to how long it will take but actual system size and warp speeds haven't changed.

You can now jump on contact automatically which makes jumping across multiple systems faster. I normally give myself 30seconds/system if I'm en route somewhere as far as how long it'll take me.

A very nice article, it reminds me a lot of the first article I read about EVE about 6 years ago by PC Gamer which concentrated on the hit on Mirial (briefly mentioned in the IGN article) - I do remember being fascinated by the scale of it and the possibilities it opened up. That said, I did try the game briefly but couldn't really get into it in the short time I had. Might need to give it another try one of these days.

the only time it would take you that long to go several jumps, is if you are either a) in a freighter, or b) autopiloting, which in itself is a terrible idea.

edit: confirming eve is a terrible game

Right, that is very useful information. if you can go from system to system in 30 seconds then that changes the whole landscape of the game for me now. I used auto pilot all the time but can't remember what ship I owned. (Traxata gave me 100,000 ISK and I bought a new ship - thanks for that Traxata!). As this slow passage was the thing that pretty much killed my interest, I am now seriously considering giving it another spin. I regularly get emails from the developers offering 5 days of free account activation.

The point made that this aspect confirms it is a terrible game has a bit of credit, had I known this 3 years ago, I may not have dropped the game so easily.

I wonder what other things I don't know....

Thats an interesting article and sounds like a really different kind of game. Its amazing how computer games have developed since i started playing them in the late 80's.
