American ATMs must suck. I don't see how anything like this could be fitted to a UK style one.

The slots on the UK ATMs are all inset into the machine, and are flush (none of this weird round bumpy thing that those pictures have). As such, it's pretty obviously if something has been put over the top of it.

Edit: Though for the record, NOPE! I wouldn't have spotted them in a million years...

Our ATM's are checked daily ... Or atleast the ones in Ashford are, we have police posters next to each ATM informing people that there are Lebanese loops placed on various ATMs in the highstreet..

The card slots are deliberately like this:

So all they can do is slot a plastic or wire thread over the entrance of the card slot, maybe it's different in London or another city though...

Though around here we tend to get people just using mini-diggers to rip them out of the walls

But they're obviously custom manufacturing this stuff... Whats to stop them from covering the entire right hand panel with another?

The particular type of ATM that Trax linked a picture of up there also has in its main idle rotation of images a picture of what the machine should look like.

But yea the machines around here don't have any pokey bits like those so it is more difficult to get away with attaching such a device.

They do still exist in the uk.

or you get the foreign lots (i wont name nationalities) who go around in groups, "accidentally" knock you when typing in your pin number, watch you type your pin number in, and then essentially twat you afterwards and steal your card and steal your money.

Always cover your hand when typing in the pin number, so that if the camera cant see what you type in.

I usually cover up the numbers on the card whilst I put the card in the machine too so if a camera is looking down from above it cant get the whole card number either.....

.... although that method does fall down when some machines feel as though someones been continually jizzing inside them and the card pokes out like 1mm, and you have to grasp onto that to pull it out.


and always check your card statements!!!

I saw a documentary about Polish gangs that do this, as well as the skimmers on the front of the card slot. It's frightening how small and authentic they can make them look.
