Battlefield 3 Servers are now available to pre-order. Multiplay is currently selling them at £1 per Slot per month. We would like to get a 64 slot server for several months.

Bloke and I have discussed getting a server for the release date. The reason we are talking about contributions now rather than in October is that it will be significantly easier to collect monies from people who are at i43&44, (thats not to say that we'd drop this after i43, the sooner we get contributions sorted the sooner we get a server when BF3 is out).

The server start date will be around 1st November.

We are looking for continuous and one off contributions towards a server.

While we are happy to give in basic game admin controls to anyone who asks, res-slots and advanced admin (if they exist at release) will be awarded to donations over a minimal* threshold.

Please PM me if interested in contributing.

If you wish to admin a server if/when we have one please wait until BF3 is out, as there wont be any stringent procedure.

*Less than £12(Or recurring contributions at or over £4) - i know this feels high, but the servers do cost a whopping £64 a month, and the privileges will be permanent(As long as we have the server obviously)!

Our Goal is to raise, from the sum of all contributions, at least £24/month from the community.

I plan to repost this thread in the games forum in October.

Opened up in case of questions.

Currently dont know if BF3 has hardcore, our server wont be running it though (Bloke hates it, nuff said).

Hardcore as an option is confirmed.

It's for that reason alone that i'm not interested in playing BF3. Have fun with it all guys. o/

Think positive in this thread pls! - Mk1

I'm also not interested if it's not hardcore. May as well be playing TF2 for all the realism normal mode provides.

On the positive side... you get bloke? :p

...this is going to turn into another hardcore vs. "softcore" debate, but still. Realism can be fun, but to a point - the game also needs to be fun, and you need to be able to communicate with your team effectively to really be able to co-ordinate a defence in battlefield games. When you turn off all those things that have been added in to provide that, things get very boring very quickly for defenders (regardless of the game mode).

The fact that you have lower health and whatnot I couldn't give two hoots about - it's the lack of minimap and the lack of spotting that really is the dealbreaker here.

When I last joined our BC2 server it was on hardcore and rush mode and I was on the defending team. I saw a pair of attackers move right round the back of the base, moved to intercept, and was taken out. My team then totally failed to notice these guys and they acted as a mobile spawn point, causing us to get attacked from 2 directions simultaneously, making it entirely impossible to defend when married with an assault from a tank aswell.

Now you could argue that that is due to good tactics on the attacker's part. My opinion of such a situation is that i've been deprived of the tools required to be able to have a chance of defending that attack successfully - if I'd been able to inform my team that we were being flanked by using the spotting functionality, chances are some other people would have seen what I saw and dealt with it before it became a threat.

The odds are usually in favour of attackers in most situations in battlefield games, as can easily be evidenced by the win/loss ratio of any soldier on Rush mode - so making it even more difficult to defend a position and then willingly removing those aids is just entirely abhorrent to me.

I am with bloke for all the reasons above, we disagree on lots of BF related topics but I'm with you on this. I'm not that bothered about the health but I find I'd prefer a happy medium between hc and normal. HC a fart kills you normal mode all teh bullets in world won't bring you down. I can normally do pretty well on either.

What annoys me in hc exactly as bloke has described is the crippling effect tactically that HC brings.

I do fine on voip with friends, always getting gold squad pins and capturing/destroying objectives quite well.
I'm yet to see a game do good ingame communication between players without spoon feeding you everything.

[mod]Im not an expert with the forum modding, so im starting a thread for discussing hardcore, (rather than thread splitting) as i think discussions on the the subject are interesting and valid. My reply is there.[/mod]

Server debranding is affected by the 50% off down to £1.5/month.

For that we get to not have the server prefixed "multiplay ", With bad company 2, I simply felt that the brand was strong and leant weight to the servers quality regarding ping/connection etc.

Anyhoo, if we break donation targets we can revisit this.

We also get to have a loading screen banner, which is disabled feature on branded servers, eg:

I take it you can't get anything out of the kitty? Cos I'm alreay doing a monthly thing there and can't really afford a second social sub.

This is sometihng that myself and Mk1 are doing out of our own pocket, and while we're using the THN name, because of the high cost involved I don't think that the THN kitty should be involved as it's not necessarily something that everyone will get a benefit from - if it was something that was going to be running on our own hardware then that would be different, but as it's not, I'm not sure that getting funds from the THN kitty would really be worth it

Bloke and i had discussed in detail the implications of people contributing to the THN BF3/bad company server, drawing money away which would other wise be in the "kitty" we decided to let people decide for themselves what their money would be used for, i will however say this; Bloke and I will need external contribution for the BF3 server to happen, we have so far only covered 75% of the costs(of which 70% ish is from us.) which we need for the first 3 months.

When i get back there will be a more detailed public announcement on the subject of the BF3 server.

Mostly* :)

and while we're using the THN name,
With BFBC2 this was a sensible idea, however with BF3 the costs are unfortunately prohibitively high for us not to.

>.<
