Battlefield: Bad Company 2 has the sollution.

There is no Commander in BC2. But you can still get a glimpse from above and inform your brothers and sisters in arms!

You can fly the UAV by looking for the UAV controls, it looks somewhat like a mini arcade machine.
PC:

• R = Ascend
• F = Descend

This also shows this on the game screen on the right hand side as you take control of the UAV.
PS3:

• L1 = Ascend
• L2 = Descend
