Ive recently come across a program called Bit torrent.
I know some of you will have been using it for donkeys, but its new to me.
Ive always used Kazaa in the past for file sharing.

The questions are..How does it all work
Are there any risks to using it
How do i get the best performance out of it

Please post if you can be helpful.

Cheers

I use BitTornado personally. Basically, you get a .torrent file and open it up using BitTornado or whatever, and that puts you in a 'channel' of sorts where you connect to other BT users who are trying to download or have downloaded the file you are trying to get. For example, open up the BitTorrent file FakeMovie.torrent using BitTornado, and youll start downloading FakeMovie from anyone connected to BitTorrent who have part, or all of, that file. Its basically a more refined form of file sharing programs. Quite handy.

For risks, well theres viruses and the like; and if you try and download anything illegal then theres always the long arm of the law to contend with.

To get the best performance, basically just go for the most popular torrents, make sure your download speed is maXXXed, reduce your upload speed, and dont try to download hundreds of things at once.

I used to use ABC, and it was pretty good.
Then I tried µTorrent. Trust me on this one. It has all the functionality, and none of the bullshit issues.

I've been using Azureus, but µTorrent sounds like it might be worth trying...

azureus + rss feed parser plugin + email notification plugin == completely automated download of tv shows as they are released followed by an email to me telling me when they've finished downloading.

Thats my prefered choice anyway.

*checks email*

Azureus download status notification

Download 'Battlestar.Galactica.S02E13.WS.DSRip.XviD-SFM-[TVT].avi' has changed state from Downloading to Seeding
Gah now I want to go watch galactica *sniffs*
