Blood Bowl: Chaos Edition

Cyanide are developing a new edition of Bloodbowl with 3 new teams and some other bits and pieces. Release date likely to be some time this summer. The biggest surprise is that 1 of the 3 teams is a Cyanide created team and not one of the official teams. It will be really interesting to see what it looks like (just hoping that they can balance it though and not make it overpowered).

I'm not holding much hope...

This still means that they won't have produced all the regular bb teams. Which will be left out? Chaos Pact? Chaos Dwarfs? Slann? Underworld?

No excuse for leaving out Chaos Pact or Underworld, considering they use existing players.

Poor effort on cyanide's part. Seems to me they're just milking the liscence now.

Linemen with easy access to Block, Claw, MB and Piling on, if the wishes of the matchmaking community are anything to go by...

See, that is just why it makes no sense they skipped Chaos pact, since they were created only to allow cheap-ass Block Claw MBPO, along with a powerful Ag 4 ballcarrier. (That is still cheaper and safer than hoping to roll +Ag) The rest of the CP team is just a smokescreen for this simple fact.

I saw a couple of nice examples of that in Fumbbl that I can post later.

TBH this sounds like a way to try and make money off of work that is required to fix bugs...

Will reserve judgement till I see how much they are wanting to charge for it.

Exactly.

If it was a fairish price (i.e. less than 5 pounds considering this is all material which should have been implemented in the original version, and certainly had no reason to be omitted from LE) I might consider it, but the overall cost to THN members to buy it would be quite large.

I pushed THN to switch to legendary edition because it virtually doubled the number of different teams available to use. I can't see myself pushing this again considering current interest levels in the THN BB community, so...

I don't see our league changing over to a new software package. This should at best be DLC, and in reality, should be a free patch, not a new game version.

I'm going to take a guess and say that its going to cost 10 euro for the new version. I will likely buy it as i really want to coach an Underworld team. Chaos Dwarf also look like fun.

As for the new races that are being released, its Chaos Dwarf, Underworld and Demons of Khorne (DoK being the one that Cyanide are creating themselves). I'm actually glad that Chaos Pact aren't included, basically for the reasons that Dreamy has posted in his link. Could this be Cyanide wanting to balance things more by excluding the low tv bashy claw race? In all likelihood no, but i'm not complaining that they are missing. However it is a shame that they didn't include Slann. Hopping frogmen from the stars - how could you say no to that...?

As for whether its adopted by THN or other leagues, i hope it will be eventually, but certainly wouldn't begrudge any leagues for not adopting it.

I'm going to guess at 30 € for the new edition - but availability at "cheap stores" will probably make it 19 € if you shop around. First 10 € sale by winter.

Apparently GW has removed Slann from the stars, and say that they are really old Lizardmen now. (I.e. fat gits)

They've also butchered the fluff of Grey Knights, Blood Angels and Necrons in 40k - so lets just ignore what is canon and go with what we all know to be true ;)

To be fair, blood bowl essentially has nothing to do with GW now. The NAF do all the rules tweaking, so unless they remove them from the rules pack, they're a legitimate team in my eyes.

The only legitimate fluff for GW is written by Dan Abnett or Bill King, the rest of them suck.

As a point, Cyanide has just released a game based on Confrontation (a TT skirmish game produced by the now defunct Rackham). Apparently according to RPS, all the usual issues found with the BB netcode still remain, Poor AI etc, poor implementation of real time.

One of the posters over there made a fairly astute comment that since Rackham no longer exists, this would have been perhaps the only chance to implement a direct conversion of a tabletop wargame to the PC, complete with all rules, without the company having to worry about it impacting sales of miniatures, but cyanide had to go and fuck that up too.

A sentiment shared by every TT coach in the world, I'm sure.

But GW holds the license, and apparently they said "No jumping Slann, it will dilute our trademark" or something to that effect.

What did you expect? They are French for one thing, so no great expectations there. Or do you know any good game companies to come from France (Ubisoft does not count as they are evil incarnate), I have yet to see one.

I do not know Confrontation so cannot comment on that, but I am very glad that this current iteration of BB exists as I come from a small town in Germany where you got fuck all people to play with. I have moved in the meantime, but the guys at the local shop are douchebags and so I am glad that I have this version, however flawed it is.
Nevertheless it is a stupid money grab from Cyanide to release this Chaos edition at max it should be a 5-7 € DLC for the current game. The only time I would

He obviously realised that he was starting to rant and therefore cut it short before it got too abusive for these forums! ;)

I realise its not at all a focus for most players, but i would be happy if they could improve the AI in single player a bit more. I often dont have the time to play a full match online and just want a 30 minute game or so. Single player is great for that, but the AI is so dumb that it takes away a lot of the challenge.

If you play an exhibition game with a Cyanide premade team and just rush madly ahead it is a perfectly good challenge. ;)

(Just played a test game to see if changing the white grass of Norse stadium to green would help. Answer: yes. Also drew against the AI :p)
