Congratulations to all who played in Season 1 of League 3 of THN's Blood Bowl league and thank you for an excellent season!

Before talking the final results, a couple of notes:

Cyanide's ranking system for teams who have won/lost is fairly crazy. Now, it doesn't matter when the points talk for themselves, but in cases of a tie on points then it makes weird decisions. As a result, we're going to (try to) intervene manually.

This situation has occured in Division 1 between Huung and Tempscire, where they've both come away with 6 points, but Tempscire has been ranked 4th and Huung 5th, despite Huung winning the head-to-head (their goal difference is the same, at -1). It almost looks like Tempscire has come out on top because his team sorts alphabetically higher (G vs H). This isn't correct, as far as we're concerned, so said manual intervention is going to occur here.

Thus, the tables below reflect what we believe should have occured, not what Cyanide's broken system tries to do...

The final results of Season 1:

Division 1

  1. Storm Heroes [4-1-0] (Ronin Storm)
  2. Trax's Twerps [4-0-1] (Traxata)
  3. Velamantics [2-1-2] (Velaphor)
  4. Huung's Hippies [2-0-3] (Huung)
  5. Ghazgkull's Grunts [2-0-3] (Tempscire)

Division 2

  1. bobrek's babes [5-0-0] (waterproofbob)
  2. The clan Eshin Rats [4-0-1] (lucius101)
  3. Khorne's Headtakers [2-1-2] (Kasatka)
  4. Iron's Blackfist's [2-0-3] (Iron_Fist)
  5. The White Lancers [1-1-3] (VibroAxe)

Division 3

  1. Denizen of the Rot Father [5-0-0] (Ghostwolf67)
  2. Team Fanservice [3-1-1] (Xarlaxas)
  3. Necro nemesis [3-0-2] (paddyobrien1983)
  4. Smashem and Bashem [2-1-2] (thatbloke)
  5. Iguana-Lose [1-0-4] (comrade_phil)

Well done to all those who won their divisions and commiserations to those who've just found their head coach strung up outside their practice grounds.

So, to the tricky part:

Promotions, Relegations, Retirements & New Contestants

Inevitably, all the bye-teams have been relegated. This is going to be seeded differently so that the bye-teams don't end up stacked in lower leagues. Thus, the intention is to relegate the bottom played team in Division 1 and 2. This should mean:

  • Ghazgkull's Grunts relegate to Division 2
  • The White Lancers relegate to Division 3

Of course, the top team in each division will be promoted, meaning:

  • bobrek's babes promote to Division 1
  • Denizen of the Rot Father promote to Division 2

Those are the easy ones. However...

We've been advised that some people may wish to re-roll into new teams. Ideally, we'd like to minimise that, but we'd rather people were playing and having fun than the league was strictly competitive. So...

If you want to change your team, we need to know by end of Friday this week.

A little leniency will be offered but we do want to get things going for Season 2 in fairly short order, ideally by Sunday this week.

We need to look at what will be involved for that based on who and how many people are wanting to re-roll and our strategy will vary according to those factors. However, very roughly, we want to do the following:

  • If you are re-rolling, we will usually enter you into Division 3, not where you are placed currently. This will lead to additional promotions as necessary to make the leagues make sense.
  • New teams will need to be of the same Team Value (TV) order as the existing teams in the division they're entering. At the moment, bottom TV in Division 3 is 1130 (excluding broken teams from Division 2) so new teams will be expected to be around that TV or less.

Really, the aim here is to encourage a bit of consistency, discourage swapping for a "better" team you've been playing elsewhere, and give value to being in the league for longer. If in doubt, we'll likely prefer an existing team over a new one.

We're also happy to receive new entrants for Season 2. They'll replace bye-teams on a one-for-one basis, but otherwise will tend to be treated like a team change so will follow the same guidelines as above.

If you're wanting to join the league for Season 2, please let us know by the end of Friday this week.

That gives us three spots for new players.

Otherwise, get yourselves ready for Season 2 (what I'll probably start refering to as League 3.2) and we'll get this show on the road as soon as we can.

Questions?

So, by way of declaration, I'm stepping back from Blood Bowl for this next season as I need to focus on, well, earning money to pay my rent and other such basic things.

So, Storm Heroes are retiring for Season 2; maybe they're spending next season nursing their wounds and praising their victories with Pina Coladas in some undisclosed sunny location...

However, by arrangement, Panda will be stepping up to take my play slot, though it's not clear (and won't be 'til he returns from lands far away) whether he'll be filling out the roster in Division 1 or entering a new team under the same rules as above. This is one of those cases where what needs to happen will happen to help keep the league glued together.

I'll probably drop the Heroes from the league and enter a bye-team in their place. If it turns out that I can play Season 3, we'll judge at the time whether it's best for the Heroes to return to Division 1, or whether I should enter a new team; basically, whatever is needed to make the league make sense (and all assuming I can actually play then).

as i posted in the week 5 thread, my broken team needs a little work. Now i have a reasonable front line i reckon 2-3 friendlies should put me back onto a competitive footing in league 2 (basically need around another ~150K for a new player or 2 and another re-roll to take TV upto ~1200)

I suspect I'll give the ogres one more season of being the whipping boys, then maybe I'll think about a new team at the end of the next season :)

I'll send Paddy this way, as I believe he may want to drop out of this league due to time constraints...

Panda with issues...

Just as a point, I'm not sure if you intend to do this or not, but people shouldn't be playing any games with their league teams until the next league season. Indeed, they shouldn't even be ABLE to without withdrawing them from the league. I suspect injured players with non-niggling injuries should all be fully functional at the start of the next season.

If you are creating a new team and re-entering the league in D3, feel free to play a few games to get your team up to the minimum TV of existing teams in D3, which ronin stated somewhere above.

Yeah. That should be fine Iron. In general, it'd be best if people didn't play between season friendlies with league teams, but in the case of broken teams (such as yours and Vibs) I think it's much better that you play a couple of friendlies to get back to strength than drop your team and re-roll.

Hey Guys,

I really enjoyed playing in the league this season (apart from GhostWolfs amazing dice rolls against me! - I managed to roll 1 defender down and 1 defender stumbles ALL GAME) but I am going to have to take a back seat for the next season. With the hours I work, evenings off are a premium and I struggle for time to fit in the league games. I am more than happy to play friendlies with you all when I am free, but I don't think I will be doing justice to everyone, if I can't fulfill the fixtures :(

I'm fine with the relegation. It's the right thing to do considering the circumstances. Count me in for the next season.

I'm afraid due to some changing situations at the moment at work and home i'm going to have to withdraw from the league for the moment. I hope I can play a few friendly's occasionally to build the lancers back up to strength and then perhaps rejoin div 3 at a later season.

Sorry guys, really enjoyed it!

More people will join up hopefully. I'd rather continue seeing by-weeks than squish us all into a couple of divisions.

5 weeks did feel a little short, 6teams + bye would only give it an extra week, but for me i think that would hit the sweet spot.

One can only have even numbers of teams in a Division. Just the way it is.

Thus:

6 teams = 5 weeks = 4 played weeks with 1 bye team.

Or:

8 teams = 7 weeks = 6 played weeks with 1 bye team.

The constraints of the Cyanide system are often unhelpful in this regard.

We very much want the shorter cycles so that people aren't left in a losing rut for long.
