[Bug:Intended Functionality] Contradicting Who's Online

When I look at the who's online in the shoutbox today i got
"Duren,Bloke,me,Gombol"
The main who's online box showed
"Me, Traxata, SgtFury, Ronin Storm, Duren"

Notice the lack of gombol in the second.
I can understand that not everyone in the active users will be in the shoutbox, but people in the shoutbox should be in the active users, surely?

The difference is about how sessions are managed. The sessions on vBulletin and the sessions in the shoutbox are managed separately.

vBulletin will only recognise that a user has done something when they visit a vB page and only continues to list them for so many minutes (5?) afterwards. That counter is reset each time they do something else in vBulletin.

The shoutbox recognises an active user by watching for shouts, which is an entirely AJAX system that barely touches vBulletin at all. This session times out after 10 minutes of inactivity and, at that point, the user's shoutbox also goes into idle bandwidth saving mode.

So, a user can be active in the shoutbox but not on the boards and vice versa and that makes sense. A user who is active in the shoutbox but not on the board means they're responding to shouts but have no clue what's changed on the board. A user who is active on the board has (potentially) seen recent posts and PMs but might be unaware of shoutbox shouts. Hence the separation.

I'll file this one under "slightly confusing feature".
