[Bug: Minor/Intermittent] Shoutbox refresh

Im on the edge of killing some on here!!!

Im trying to read the shoutbox from the bottom up to catch up on what ive missed while I have been at work but every time I do, it keeps popping back up to the top!!!

Its soooo annoying!

I suggest going to the archive by clicking on the shoutbox title and reading the last page from there. They both contain the same number of posts, with the advantage in the archive that they're not updating on the same page you're reading.

But why does the whole shoutbox refresh every 10 secconds.

it never used to do that!

We have a new shoutbox don't we? From an old one to a much better one. Nothing is perfect however, but I'm sure the benifits did outweigh the small quirks.

it never used to do that!

It appears to be a system-specific problem. I've seen this one one machine once but I don't get it on the three other machines I've tried it on. This makes it a devil of a problem to track down because I have no way to test it (in any sensible iterative timeframe).

From time to time I've wondered about rewriting the whole thing to be better. I dislike the basic mechanism used. But it's also a fair amount of work so it's not getting done in the near future.

OK your right I didnt realise it didnt do it on my home PC.

Maybe I tincker with my work PC!!!

My suspicions revolve around some combination of:

• Vista
• Graphics card drivers
• Older graphics cards
• Internet Explorer
• Low screen refresh rate

... but it could easily be something else too.

the shoutbox refreshing to the top only happens for me at college, on IE 5.

firefox 1 is fine ( for some reason they felt our year group don't deserve FF2 )

at home on vista, all is fine in IE7 and FF2 aside from the smilies, which we've explained is another case of the above

It also happens on my machine (although it seems to be fairly intermittent these days).

Setup for the record is IE7, Windows XP & Geforce 7900 GTO. Don't know about drivers or screen refresh rate.

Maybe, after all this, it's just IE that's the factor?

IM mnow on IE7 but was on 6 pre crimbo and ive only noticed it since then!

Im very proud of bringing somthing up that is actualy useful

Yeah, I had it once recently and started happening as soon as I installed IE7. Stopped now, though.

haven had a problem with this at home...or at college..=/
