Civ IV: Colonization

Way back around 1994-1995, those of you who are old enough may or may not have heard of and/or played a severely underrated game released by Microprose called Colonization. The game was all about the colonization of America by the four European superpowers the English, French, Spanish and the Dutch.

It was a Sid Meier game, and in my opinion is the best game he has ever done. (Yes that includes Civilization games...)

Finally, that game is getting the treatment it deserves, with the impending release of Civ 4: Colonization.

This is essentially a rework of the same game using the Civ 4 engine.

This is one game I will most certainly be getting ASAP. On the official webpage for the game it is listed as a September 23rd release, that date is I believe an American release date and for the UK I believe it is the Friday of that week, the 26th.

I would hope that it's available on Steam from the onset, but I won't be able to buy it for a few days until after the release anyway so we'll see what happens.

This is now #1 on my Must Have list.

Stupid Americans and their complete lack of ability to spell. Why is there a Z in either of those words. It makes me sad.

I say we all protest and not play it until they all learn to spell. That's right I'm attacking their bad spell from a side wind. Looks pretty shiny as well. Just a shame they can't spell.

Ok so I realised a month or so ago that I owned this game... and never played it.

So on that note I started playing it, and then prompty stopped again as the game needed some balance changes... I was getting to the end game and the king had about 300 units and 100 or so ships in his expeditionary force and was trouncing all over my 70 or so units every single time, even on the easiest difficulty.

Well last week a big patch was released that re-balanced alot of things and fixed a large number of issues, and I played the game again this past weekend and I can report that it's alot better in a number of ways, and a number of annoying bugs have been sorted.

So I'll come back with a more thorough writeup at some point in the near future

I'm quite fond of both Civilisation *and* Colonisation, just gotten the Fall From Heaven mod that Angelic is talking about but not had the chance to try it, if you ever want a game Angelic just give me a prod, presuming your body isn't being fished out of the marsh right now.
