Bought this together with the original game and the Warlords expansion a couple of days ago and have just finished my first game in it... My first impressions? This isn't the same game!!!
There is SO much more going on now tha tyou cannot help but get involved...
To name but a few things, natural disaters now play a much larger role... you WILL be affected by various natural disasters, which can knock out towns, farms, roads, etc... or if you're REALLY unlucky it will do damage to a city (but so far I have excaped that )
There are lots of much smaller things that now go on and make it feel as if you are actually running a civilization, for instance, I had a message pop up not long after researching music that a man had written a powerful ballad that was becoming very popular. I had three options... The first was to just comment that this is a good thing. You get +100 culture for that. The second was to offer funding for a play to be written based on the song, this would cost me gold (about 120 in this case) and provide +400 culture in that city. The third option was to offer the man a recording contract! But unfortunately I didn't have radio at the time so this option was not selectable.
Little touches like these made me feel really attached to my civiilization, meaning that when the time came to defend my lands the would-be smiters were smited and suddenly became my Vassal State (a feature of Warlords).
That is just the tip of the iceberg to be honest... but it's a GOOD thing! And adds alot more to the game, such as Corporations too (which I haven't figured out yet).
