20 to 30K in London????

What are you supposed to live on/in?

I'm living very happily on 20k-ish and I work there. The point is that Introversion are awesome, and let me work from home 2 days a week. Not sure if the same is to be said for this job, but who knows. My commute is a bit longer than I would like, but I'm spending <£30 a week on it, so I'm very happy! I don't see why so many people (go read the job post over at rock paper shotgun)are complaining that 20-30k is bad in London. They aren't looking for an industry veteran, the job description says it all, the person will be working on an existing project to help finish it off, it's not a project lead/management/lead designer role, and it's not overly complex, so it's not going to be that much money :)

If you take the 30k as an example, that's a salary in the higher end, at least here in Sweden...

edit: let me rephrase. It's considered quite a a good salary, something managers, engineers etc should be earning.

In this country, your starting salary, as a graduate, "should" be in the high teens to low 20's in the technology industry. You're probably aspiring to be earning £35/40K by the time you're consider "senior" at your role (5+ years on that area). That's minus benefits and bonuses, including holidays (25 days per year, commonly), which add up to rather a lot when you look at paying for them yourself. Probably £50K equivalent at a senior role.

Nice. £50k, That's what I'll be earning after I've specialized (that will be a grand total of 14 years of studies, if we include med school), and been working between five and ten years. Although I guess you have higher living costs over there as well, especially housing. And especially in London.

I believe it is the case that the cost of living in the UK is very high compared with other places in Europe. Also, to be earning that sort of wage (£50K) one might generally expect to be (unofficially) working beyond the parameters of the EU working time directives. I know it's illegal but it also seems to be done far too often over here. However, I digress and wander OT... :)

If "our place" is anything to go by, it takes more than 5 years to go from the high teens to the mid-30's. Annual pay rise plus cost of living normally adds up to 4.5% (about £900), so in 5 years you'll only be up to 25K. Promotions take 3 years at minimum and can be difficult and sometimes you wonder how some people get them (ask Fury, he's had plenty of experience :D).
