Firstly I'd never get anything from PC world but I guess if you can't get it anywhere else then you have no choice, I regularly order things online and have never considered it unsafe but I respect that there are inherent dangers in it, although these can be reduced by using credit cards where things can be easily canceled. Anyway back to the PC, While reading the spec of that lots of little red alarm lights are going off in my head. Firstly as Nanor can testify the celeron's are not a great range of CPUs, 1G of RAM and vista is going to be a tough call and I believe that is onboard graphics which is going make gaming very hard indeed.

Personally my reaction is I can build a much better system for similar money, but as most like the assurance that buying from a comapny gives then that is fine, PC world however are renowned for bad tech support. A quick wander on the novatech site has found me this It is a much better spec from a much better company.

I've just had a bit of a look on the pissy world site (it hurt to do it but that's the sort of lovely fellow i am) and all I thought while looking at it was don't get it from here. The novatech is just the box but that is a reasonable spec for that money and I presume you already have peripherals.

My response will be kinda of like it was to Nanor 6 months ago, speak to your parents about setting up some kind of bank with them with money going towards a computer and save up for maybe Christmas and next birthday as if you are able to get say £500 as a sum you start to be able to get a very reasonable spec PC that will last sometime, instead of getting a rig that because you can't spend the extra £150 is more frustrating than anything else. Nanor didn't do it and has spent the last year with the worlds most amusing computer history. If your parents are unwilling to wait and this is a now or never deal then make some excuse like you can't get it from pissy world as you believe that lord voldemort works there and he is trying to steal some thing or other to give him free pizza hut buffet.

For £500, off of Scan, my younger brudda managed:

CoolerMaster Case (don't remember the model, but its quite swish)
Corsair 520W PSU
Asus M32N SLi Deluxe Motherboard
Athlon X2 6000+ CPU
2GB Corsair XMS2 RAM 800MHz
XFX 8800GTS (£100 quid barely used off one of his clan mates, I admit)
Pioneer DVD Rw

Which I [strike]helped him build[/strike] built, and it runs CoD4 reaaally nicely. He also got a decent Samsung screen out of Tesco which looks very spritely indeed.

I didn't think you could build PCs that spec for so little money, but I was surprised to find out that ... you can!

Also, our last family PC was out of PC world, and although it was fairly reliable (for a PC World package PC) it transpires that it was probably worth less than half of the grand we paid for it. GeForce 4 MX420 for crying out loud :(

I'd agree with bob and that. PCworld is a complete rip off. There basically highway robbers. Your much better going to a local computer hardware shop that has a good rep - If you can't buy online that is, and buy the parts seperately. Even If you don't know how to build a computer you can usually get them to do it for a 50 quid charge or something.

I recently bought myself a new computer on a tight budget and got some good bargains. I got the following spec for around £320-£350:

AMD Am2 X2 5600+ Proccessor
Gigabyte Ma69vm-s2 Motherboard
Saphire X1950 Pro 256MB
1GB Geil DDR2 800MHz
Trust 570W Pro Psu
Western Digital 320GB Sata 2 7200RPM 8MB HardDrive.

Good shout Macca.

Go to a local PC shop.. BUT.. do your homework on the cheap sites. They may see you comming at treat you like PC world would. If you know you shouldnt pay more that £100 for the graphics card you want, dont get it. Nip into town and have a look.
IMO go for AMD 64 if ya can (4200+ is high end and awsome) and LOTS of RAM. Keep your case if its normal size and grab a 5.1 sound card if you dont have one. You cant fail then. Like Macca said, if you have bits in your PC that you wanna keep, Dont get them! . Also I have found ones with geeks hanging around tend to be better!!

I think that will be the best way. PCworld do refurbished PC's with AMD 64's and stuff but there are online only!

I would also avoid PC world. When ever I have bought anything from Pcworld/Currys/Dixons I have more problems then solutions.

Novatech are a great company and even have a physical shop.....although it is in plymouth i think :)

My last 2 computers have both been novatechs.

Novatech have a place in Portsmouth (round the corner from me), Bristol, and are soon opening a third outlet in Reading if you are near any of those...

FUCKING CELERONS! PIECES OF DUNG. Also, the PC you linked wouldn't run any game I'd imagine...

Seriously, do not, under any circumstances get a celeron, ever. EVER!
