In Cryo Sleep
So at some point before i45 (e.g. over the next 4 and a half months), I'm looking to upgrade my now fairly old system.
Currently running Q6600 , 8gb on a motherboard which is now over 5 years old.
My current upgrade plan a la guys in IRC is to go to something like: http://i.imgur.com/56RSY.png, or alternatively the 2600k which is at £240 on scan atm.
Primary use will be gaming, and then doing photoshop / image processing / video rendering as well (which took forever at i44 ¬.¬)
As I'll have to reinstall the windows anyway with a new system, I was planning on getting a SSD. Threw on the 120gb vertex 3 to that list picking one that was kinda mid range that sounded nice. Plan was to stick windows install in there, but then also use it for temporary video stuff whilst editing. I found a lot on my current system that it was faffing a lot whilst trying to read and process two different video files at once. It seemed to be doing a lot of disk access whilst doing that and therefore lagging, but I'm not sure whether the processor also bottlenecked this, so whether this problem would go away with a faster processor or not.
So the main questions are:
When's going to be the best time to get the above?
Are there going to be any real new releases over the next few months thatll drive the price of the above down?
Is it worth the extra £75 getting the 2600k over the 2500k?
Is that SSD the most sensible choice / Whats the best use of an SSD in the system.
