Computing is awesome

is that the lemaitre one, or another one? Saw something around the whitelight stand at plasa 08 last year which was similar, but seemed to make a lot of noise.

They were used in the "take that" musical across the stage, and could happily fall into a slot which was only a few cm small in the stage floor. clever.

Its a shame that the water isnt forced out of the jets at the top, as currently gravity 'stretches' the image as it falls. would be nice so it just stays the same relative to each other as it falls. *-)

still - very funky!

p.s. - hows this 'computing' being awesome btw?

Thats more awesome engineering/design really. The control behind it (on the 'computer' side) is fairly simple I'd say. Tis just simple on / offs of solenoids on each channel that turn on and off at a certain time. Compared to a lot of other stuff there is in entertainment technologies, I'd not say this is the most computationally awesome!

Would you class a mac2000 as 'awesome computing', when the control inside one of those is probably significantly more than the AVFX?

:p

just my 2p!

Wol, I think they can't get jets in there because if you look at the driver unit with the valves, they're already quite large because of the motor housing next to each one, I dare say it isn't possible, but probably not cost effective considering how much they are already... :p

Also, you went to plasa 08 and didn't come poke me? :P

And yeah that's running the same 'display' as the lé Maitre Aqua FX wall, I asked Rick if I could play with it but he said it's too damn expensive :(

Also, are you sure White light had one on the 08 stand? I didn't see it there as I walked around...

Exactly! Oh, sure, as far as computing goes, it's not particularly obscure or computationally nightmarish. That's a whole other type of awesome. (Toy Story, anyone? :))

This one is awesome because it is simple, and yet, oh so beatiful.

Hell, a ZX Spectrum would probably be enough to control the valves apropriately. It would still be awesome! :)

Cheers,
J.

We had the discussion about plasa last year :p. Never managed to find you in the end, although I wasnt there for that long.

How much are those things then?

There was one around the back in EC2 near to Z88, robert julat and that lot I remember seeing. Thought it was close to WL, but memory might be a bit dodgy.

Has anyone seen a proper son et lumiere display at all? I remember seeing one in france which had a fuckton of water fountains / water screens / movers / lasers / projections / synched to music. Theyre a gorgeous demonstration of show control all working together happily!
