Friday release for Crysis.

Gamespot have wet their pants over it. A score of 9.5 for a PC game. They occasionally do that for console games but almost never for a PC game.

Their summary:

Gamespot Review said:
The Good

  • Dynamic, emergent shooter gameplay
  • Unparalleled visuals with destructible environments
  • High level of replayability
  • Power struggle makes for huge multiplayer battles
  • An amazing accomplishment overall.

The Bad

  • The single-player story ends
  • Will laugh at every CPU and GPU thrown at it
  • No team deathmatch.

I daren't read their review in detail just in case it gives too much away. I think I already know more than I wanted to about what goes on from previous coverage, don't need to make that worse.

I think my November games budget is probably going on this.

I'm not buying this.
Here's why at i32 where EA brought along a full copy of the game it was ok but was handled fine by the over heating isotopes that they had on the Intel/scan stand on very high. OK the singleplayer would be somet that I'd like to see more but the mulitplayer was a complete flop no one realy liked it or cared. Everyone went off to play mp COD4 which was widely agreed to be a much better multiplayer game. OK for a singleplayer game it is it looks stunning truely amazing but the gameplay isn't there to make this a great multiplayer game.
It may well be an amazing achievement graphically and the physics engine may be the best thing since jennifer ellisons chest but it's not going to blow me away multiplayer wise. I'm not a massive single player FPS gamer anymore, so for that this is kinda an arse.
All I can say is ppl were much more interested in COD4 which is kinda just new COD doing what they do best than in Crysis a game that has so much hype its not even funny.

I may get it just for the single player but i doubt it.

I think I may be firmly in the other camp, then. I've never really enjoyed Call of Duty's multi-player, finding it shallow and far too close to Unreal Tournament for a game that has a "real world" lick of paint on it. However, having played both single- and multi-player variants of Crysis I've really enjoyed them both. The first 45 minutes of Crysis multiplayer is frustrating as you try to figure out things that the veterans already know and are using against you but, after that, you start to find your niche and can really start to help out.

Sure, this is no TF2 with its high-access game play and instantly recognisable classes; instead it plays more subtly than that, where it's a substantial advantage to pay attention to how the maps are constructed, what's going on around the place (in a BF2-stylee) and therefore what tools to take to the fight.

So, I'm pretty disinterested in Call of Duty 4 as the demo told me what I already knew; it plays like the previous games and I didn't like them much either. Crysis, on the other hand, offers me a beautiful environment that I can experience either in both single- and multi-player and a less-arcade/more "realistic" shooter experience, which I also appreciate.

...I'm not a massive single player FPS gamer anymore...

That is actually the reason you're not buying it then :) It has nothing to do with the fact that it's a power beast. You don't have to play everything on "Very High". CoD4 might be better multiplayer, but apparently, it's SP is pretty poor (I wouldn't know, I haven't played it at all). If you're a multiplayer gamer, fine. I love a good story and stuff, so I hope it will live up to the hype, at least a little!

Oh, and I don't get bored reading a bit of text on screen every now and then, eh bob? ;)

The only bad thing about the COD4 multiplayer is that its not that long, I watched trax play it over the weekend and it looked pretty damn cool to me and he certainly seemed to enjoy it. And yes I get bored to tears when a FPS expects me to sit and read reams of stuff to understand the game this is where stalker failed completely for me. I don't think crysis will make you do that and I don't doubt that the SP in crysis is awesome but there were also calls of crysis kinda being just a glorified far cry ( I dunno as I've not played it thats just the thoughts of a chap at i32).

I hope I'm wrong and that the mp isn't over complicated and only for those with machines of death to be happy with their FPS to comfortably kill ppl because their draw distance is twice that of others.

I look forward to be proven completely wrong tbh.

On the Crysis Dept, I didn't get much of a go on the game because we were more immersed in our free Intel hoodies and sleeping bags! But, yes it does look pretty, I think I'll grab it for the single as i never really did like the multi on FarCry to be honest..

On CoD 4, I believe, between myself and vibs, WE got to the final level ( On veteran ) - It may not be but damn 50 odd Russians running at you with draknov's and Kalashnikov's just is'nt fun I've seen more nade spam from the AI in that game than i have EVER seen in 2142 ( and we get one damn good nade spammers )

Granted I'm playing in veteran which may have something to do with that ... But still :p

We also, ( all 4 of us ) had a nice session of CoD4 multiplayer on the Badly cooled Scan/ Intel Isotopes ( Thanks to Mr.Fish :D Who kindly snuck us on the stand at 3 am to have a go.)

Something that both myself and bob felt is the maps. After a while, yes we will get to grips with where to go as we'd only just joined in, Sat next to bob I did just receive comments like "Where the fuck am I going ?!?" which was always fun to appear behind him and stab him in the back :p

I'm interested to know if we did get to the final level in COD4, but although a little short I thought the COD4 SP game was really nice, I've not played any of the previous COD's so it's kind hard to give a comparisson, but I felt it was immersive and easy to pick up. I've not done alot of crysis, as trax said we were being sociable, but I was severly unimpressed by it tbh. Yes it was pretty, and i'm prepared to except I only played the demo level and so can't really give comment about the full game, but I just didn't find the demo level engrossing at all. But thats just my opinion
