Custom TF2 Maps

I'm just in the process of installing the TF2 map "lazytown". It's a control point map with large outdoor areas and interesting capture points. I've played the map a few times before and felt that we should give it a try in our map rotation.

If anyone has seen and played any good custom maps out there then feel free to recommend them.

Floodzone is fun and a sniper's heaven.

Also they have a remake of the original CTF Well Map. Which was always fun .....

quick question with the custom maps, do you have to have them installed client-side first or can you download it from the game server when it comes up on the map rotation?

Not that I play TF2 myself, but if masses of THNers are gonna get kicked becuase they dont have a map installed I think they need to be told to install it

Custom Maps tend to be installed as you join the server. They don't take that long to download. Well compared to when I used to connect to TFC servers via a 56 modem. Those took ages.

It will download the map for you when the map comes up in rotation. That has always been the case with Half-Life and multiplayer.

Like i said though it may be worth putting them in so an Admin can change to them but not actually part of the rotation.

My general experience with the custom maps is that they are crap, and mostly for ex-cs AWP abusers who want the same feeling in TF2 (I.e. sniper's heaven maps). But I'm happy to be proven wrong

The bit about them being crap seems to be the agreed message from gamers, or at least all those on the THN server earlier today. lazytown was loaded up followed by 6 complaints about the map and a load of people leaving the server. I changed the map back as ppl were complaining and the server was full again wihin 2 mins.

I haven't played a custom map that comes close to being as good as the set TF2 maps yet. As DocBot said I'm happy to be proved wrong, but I do think they should be a thing to have on the server but not in the main rotation.

It may be one of those things that on the custom map night we can find a handful of really good maps to have about the place.

have people found any really good custom tf2 maps?

Im just playing about on some random servers and just played cp_overflow_b4, and am about to *arrrrgh, bells*,... sorry for that.... about to play cp_warpath_final. (which has bells at the start. scary).

The overflow one was okay, nice look and feel to it, apart from the fact that all the attack to get the penultimate control point went through a corridoor about 3 metres wide. where it all got stuck and lead to stalemate really.

just interested to know if people had found any good ones lately.
