Decreasing Load Times

Dunno bout you guys, but it usually takes me a good few minutes to connect to a server. So here are some tips to help decrease this time:

1. Go to \My documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles\000*\ and open up General.con.
Scroll to the bottom and delete every line with an IP in it. Then you can write-protect the file to avoid getting all of that crap back in there! Warning: You may lose the ability to alter certain settings in your profile.

2. Open up this program. It deletes unneeded files in the BF2 cache, which slow up the load process.

3. Delete your favourite servers. This tends to help A LOT.

DISCLAIMER: I cannot be help responsible for anything that goes wrong with your game or system as a result of using these methods. Anyone following my (truly brilliant!) advice does so at their own risk.

P.S Don't be put off by the disclaimer, I'm just too cautious!

Any tips for connecting to the EA master server when I run bf2? It takes me a good couple of minutes to connect to the main account server when running BF2...

Also another good tip is to delete/move the intro movie files from the BF2 (and also the BF2142) game directory.

The game will just skip em when it runs, getting you into the main menu quicker :D

I think that an older account will take longer to connect to the master server, as it'll be further down their list. I've been told that deleting and then recovering your account 'bumps' it back up near the top of the list, but make sure you can remember your secret question and answer!

Hmmmm I think I'd like to try something a little less extreme... assuming that EA have everything set up correctly at their end it really shouldn't matter how old my account is...

Technically, if it's a single table or a flat list it may take longer for the indexer to find the right row/line if your account is deep in the table... but then that assumes that new accounts/records are created at the "beginning" (in indexer terms) of the table, which I find is usually not the case in databases I've seen.

What is more likely to occur is that your record, when used more frequently, may be held in memory/cache for more rapid access.

Well I hate to say it but it's a problem I have always had, whatever game version, whatever time. Even when I was racking up 30+ hours a week playing it it was still doing exactly the same thing :(

I had a period of long load times too... but they went away again. Now, if only I could remember what the problem was...

What anti-virus package do you use? And firewall?

no AV, (well, nothing running in the background anyway...) No firewall apart from my Router's one...

The ports must all be open because it connects eventually and I can play the game fine...

Which ISP are you with? I have half a memory, which may be wrong, that my delays were to do with very slow DNS responses...

Interesting...I'm on Virgin Cable, but my load times seem to be fine. Takes 10-15 seconds usually (touch wood!) What speed is yours?

Couldn't tell ya me dad pays for it but it's pretty fast... I can get 700-800kbps downloads usually if the servers will let me have it that fast. That's wireless too :D

Well i'm on 4meg and I usually get up to 400lbps, so presumably your meg is higher...which just makes your BF2 connection times even more of a mystery. Maybe EA just don't like you?!?!?!?

Everyone should go to be. then your load times will be much like superman. Fast as you like. but seriously i get like 1.5Mbps which is not to be sniffed at.

But do these solutions help your load times once you're in the game? I know they worked for me, was interested how other people got on with them?
