Dedicated servers for MW2 on its way ?!

If I am understanding this correctly, this guy is claiming to be in the process of composing an addon for MW2 that will give it the ability to have dedicated servers.

That's not terribly surprising. Plenty of games that use a P2P server system have been hacked about to create dedicated servers. Hell, many MMOs have had dedicated servers hacked together.

Just to keep u updated on the guys working on this, they seem to be encountaring more difficulty than they expected and are trying to make their addon "patch proof". Sensible thinking I guess, rather than rushing out a half baked version.

However what interests me is that they think dedicated server functionality is actually already coded into MW2 - it's just been disabled.

Could they activate it? Yes.

Can we hope they will? Yes.

Will they? No...

I've checked that stuff out already, and all that seems to be happening is IW take this 'alternative' route as an exploit and work out ways to break it in each of their patches. I've already seen it die once from the patching...

I don't think they'll be able to reach this 'patch proof' state they're after
