If any of you have been following events in the USA lately, you'll know that Oklahoma has passed a law restricting violent videogames: Gamespot report. Now that's all fine and dandy, but do violent videogames actually have a distinct effect upon those that play them? No-one really knows, but this man has some evidence for the pro-game division: Violent Videogames

Can't remember any specifics but I think there's been several of these laws passed in the USA, but so far, anytime they've come up in court, they have been overturned on the basis that they restrict "freedom of expresion". In other words, courts have decided that games are a form of art which should therefore not be censored. If it goes through and a court case is actually won under this law I'd get worried, but for now I reckon this one will get repealed as well.

Good for the state of Oklahoma. I'm completely fed-up of developers trying to sell games to younger kids through attitude, lets make way for games with gameplay. Maybe this'll give sensible companies like Nintendo a chance to grow again, where graphic violence and swearing isn't a prerequisite of a good game.

Admittedly, Id hate to see violent games go out of the market altogether; but Id be happy to see it remain a niche for those that want it. Those that are over 18 that want it.
