Re: Euro Force - thoughs and impressions?
Meh,
Well, let's start with the maps (bearing in mind I've only messed about on the 32-player versions
).
The Great Wall
Great idea, and running around the wall is great fun. It's almost worth the £5 just to hold one of the towers with a squad. It's so cool when you glance around the inside of the tower and see all the members looking out windows or guarding the door
. Squad v squad on the wall is great too! Though grenades are a pain. The map is a good size and would benefit from more people but is by far the best!
Operation Smoke Sreen
Omg. Tank battles! I thought Armoured Force (the next booster pack), was supposed to have the armour battles! This map has 2 uncappable and 5 cappable bases, each one has 2 tanks (except one which only has 1
). That's 13 tanks!!! As a Medic, it upset me
. Lol, but it looks great and feels like Gazala. At one flag there are burning oil silos, and the smoke covers the point with smog
. It also has a wind farm on the hill which looks lovely, the map is a little big for 32 peeps, with a lot more people the armour wouldn't be so dominant and I wouldn't have to go as Spanky-Tanky.
Taraba Quarry
Felt like a standard open BF2 map, but is set out quite like a Road to Rome map, with both forces starting close to each other over a river. Has some good flag points, one in a village is particularly good fun to fight over. There is also a mungo bridge (which I drove down in a buggy and ran over ALL the THN crew
), which is nice, otherwise it's pretty mundane with vast open spaces.
The Weapons.
Didn't really spend enough time with all the weapons. The P90 and L96A1 can be used in normal BF2 so there are only 5 new ones. The shotgun for the Eng felt good, the Special Forces weapon felt horrible (though Gishmo is a fan, wierdo!). Then there is the new Medic gun, the FAMAS
.
I am a big fan of the FAMAS, and think it's nice and balanced. Though I'm sure the people I murdered last night won't agree
. It has a high rate of fire and an excellent zoom. It's recoil is also low enough to just let rip and midish range. It does however suck at long range, even with the scope I couldn't hit anyone enough to kill them. The down side to it's high rate of fire and clip of 30 means that if you miss you've got to reload
. Sounds good too!
The Vehicles
Of the new vehicles, apart from the camo jeeps all I got to try was the Challenger 2 on Operation Smoke Screen. It feels good, rumbles along nicely. Sometimes it felt like it did more damage than the T90 and had more life, but I couldn't be sure. I spent alot of time in the tank in 2v1's which isn't the best way to get a feel for it.
Overall I enjoyed the Great Wall and when I submitted to the tank whoring on OSS I enjoyed that too. One thing that I think would benefit each map is an increase in players. The Great Wall and OSS would be brilliant with 50ish people
. The maps aren't particularly intense and reflect that with low scoring, people struggle to get more than 30 pts and a positive KD. Unless I can find a server with increased population settings I'm not sure how often I'll play.
