***please can somebody change the title of the thread for me to Factory restore lol****

[mod]Done. --RS[/mod]

i have a Rock xtream CTX pro laptop, iv had now for a year and a half, in this time its taken a beating.

i have decided to restore my laptop to how it was when it was nice and shiney in its box. But me being a n00b i dont know how to go about this.

I have all the bits and bobs that came with it. The main bit is the 'product recovery CD', when i put the cd in it only gives me the option to install windows XP, but no option to completely remove everything on the laptop and start again.

I have also pressed F8 when the laptop is booting, with the recovery cd in, it asks me to install windows xp or repair, i pressed repair and it takes me to a command prompt system where it asks for an 'admin password'. Being a n00b i have no idea what this passowrd is or where to find it.

If i press F8 on the boot up, it gives me a few options of how to boot up like in safe mode, debugging mode etc.

Is there any way i can do this without calling the Rock support line??? as they are lazy and only work monday to friday.

Anyone who can help me have a restored laptop over the weekend gets mega rep lol :p

Thanks for your time guys. :)

Re: Facory restore

I believe selecting Install Windows XP when you put the disk in should format your hard drive.

Yes, Formatting your hard drive wipes it "clean" ( there are still traces of files on the hard drive, but nothing you need to worry about ) :)

yea thats what im looking for, i believe there is no way to totaly wipe a hard drive unless you destroy it and get a new one.

so all i do is reinstall XP??

this seens far to easy lol

When you run the windows XP installer, it will ask you where you want to install it, you reformat the drive so its all called 'unallocated space' then you install on there.

Make sure you take all of your pictures / music etc off of the laptop or back it up before you wipe it, if you haven't already done so.
