[DF] Fortress Year 2 - Blood, so much blood. (Xarlaxas)

On the 1st of Granite in the year 1053 we were sent to discover why our brothers in the Safehomes of Nets had sent their yearly status report. Rumours that the area might be home to sinister goblinoid creatures led us to arm our band more heavily than customary but it was of no avail. No sooner than we had arrived outside the fortress the goblins were upon us!

Asmel Ginglolor the Axedwarf was the first to fall at the cruel whip of a Goblin Lasher, followed swiftly by Zasit Akilmonom and Gatten Limullikot, our other Axedwarves.

Next Zasit Stukostimnar and Sarvesh Akrulisan died at the fell hands of the Goblins before Catten Teliteb went mad with grief and was finally struck down by our foes.

I, Adil Oddomidash, am the only survivor, but I fear my time is short, the Goblins outnumber me and I have no skill in combat, if anyone finds this be warned! No dwarf can survive in this hellish place, the Goblins are too many, and we are too few.

So yeah, I reclaimed the fortress and the goblin ambushers came back and killed the party by the 20th of Granite. . . . I'm thinking we might have to consider building a new fort from scratch at this rate unless someone has any other ideas?

Urgh, and it's not even as if I chose a site rife with enemies. When you went in to reclaim, was there any chance of fortifying the original site?

Not really, as soon as I started the goblins attacked, chasing the dwarves away from the wagon then murdering them one after the other.

EDIT: I think I'll have a moot with a couple of my DF-playing friends for advice tomorrow night and try again, will probably go for a fully-armed group of dwarves and pray they can beat the goblins then have migrants with skills arrive. :)

More news! Sent a group of 7 dwarves all proficient at axe-use and fighting, with leather armour and bronze battle-axes along with 6 war-dogs. All dead. The goblins killed them before they could equip their weapons. . . . Will give it one more try!

Breaking news! A group of 7 dwarves with 40 War Dogs was sent but were all killed, a new party of 7 dwarves and 41 War Dogs appears to be surviving, more news as events warrant!

Team 4 has been destroyed by the goblin menace, team 5 is en route and should be more successful now that I've figured out how to attach dogs to people!

Team 5 has also died, but there only seems to be a couple of goblins left. The major problem now has to be the very large number of ghosts haunting the fortress. Team 6 will be sent in to build a tomb for them all methinks.

Here is a map! http://mkv25.net/dfma/poi-26234-goblin

Things might be about to get better, there seems to only be two goblins left and hopefully 40 war-dogs will be able to beat them.

Well, teams 9 and 10 (I think?) died, but the final team I sent in equipped with copper spears and armour were able to kill the last two goblins! One of whom have gained a title after killing so many dwarves and war-dogs. . . .

Quickly building an office for a book-keeper so I can get to the important reclaiming of the fortress and building things back up!

Had to send in a new team as the old team lost most of its dwarves the rest being crippled.

Good work! I was seriously worried about those goblins. Glad to hear they've been cleared out. Now to reclaiming the buildings and supplies!

Incidentally, I believe you can add your map to my series of maps, if you make sure you name the fortress Ekastbom Kib.

Well, there are no goblins in the fortress, I think I saw one lurking around outside, but all my dwarves are good with spears so hopefully I can deal with him should he appear.

Only real problem now is that there are loads of ghosts around and the FPS is about 5 due to 10+ parties of dwarves worth of items as well as all the stuff the fortress had being strewn about the place.

FPS is actually 1 per second now. I think I will reclaim from your original save again Ronin with marksdwarves as at the moment it will take days to fix the fortress.

Yeah, I hadn't expected all the equipment to be spread liberally across the map. I knew that stockpiles would have been deselected but surely the stuff in barrels would just have stayed in place...?

Anyway, your call. I imagine you have more combat experience than I do now. :)

Yeah, the equipment was literally spread across the *entire* map, so I'm in the process of fighting off these goblins at an earlier point.

Right! We've got a good FPS, killed all the goblins, and have an uninjured team of 7 dwarves who are only skilled at fighting sadly, but that's okay as all we need to do is haul everything back into place, make a corpse pile, and hopefully build a tomb for all the dead. :)

Tantrums are destroying the fortress from the inside out but luckily all but one of the goblins are dead I think. So we should be okay presuming migrants appear. . . .

Got my map added to Ronin's one too! http://mkv25.net/dfma/map-9970-ekastbomkib

Not sure if it makes you happy or sad Ronin but Stormius is in a stone casket at the front of the graveyard now. Not sure if I can put him in a tomb once he's been given a grave!

It is summer and the migrants have arrived. Two of them. . . . Luckily it's a Mason and a Furnace operator so not useless. Brings our population to five!

Well! The year is over. . . . http://mkv25.net/dfma/map-9971-ekastbomkib

The 4 dwarves slowly built up coffins for all the frikkin ghosts that were wandering around their workshops, and got to work on carving out a grave-yard.

Only 2 migrants appeared, a mason and a furnace operator, so at least they were useful.

The final migrant wave arrived, bringing the number of dwarves up to 8, but sadly 4 got killed by a goblin lasher that intercepted them.

So, the fortress is back down to 4 dwarves by the end of its second year of life, but we have a grave-yard that has appeased most if not all of the ghosts and we bought some cheese from the traders so there should be no problems of starving though I'm a bit worried about the ale.

The farm is being problematic as it counts as an out-door one from what I can tell and we have no outdoor seeds.

I've dug out what will be a 2nd farm but will work as underground, however it will be the job of the next leader to build and place the floodgate and deal with getting some mud going.

Good luck!

P.S.

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/990930/region1-spr-1052-spr-1057.zip File is there on my dropbox folder, will take a while to upload though.

P.P.S If the next person could name a Dwarf after me that would be great! Didn't get around to it as I was busy planning. . . .

Okay, good work. Madness, but good work. Thanks Xar!

@Angelic: you got space to pick up a year next?

Aye! It was quite an adventure, if it weren't for the succession game I'd have moved somewhere else with the fort in the state it was!

Things are certainly much better now, there's only one goblin lurking around from what I can tell so whoever comes next should be able to get some migrants into a military next big influx and train them up to get rid of it, presuming the migrants don't wander in front of him like the last lot did. . . .

I feel a bit sad giving up the fortress actually! I hope the next person has a lot of fun with it though!

I think 48 hours from the expected start is enough time to consider him MIA, so I'll handle this year. New thread coming up later today.

Sounds fine to me. Good luck!

I think you will need a few more coffins set up, not quite sure, but at any rate, it's probably a good idea to set up traps, defenses, and prepare some Marksdwarves to finish off the loitering goblins.

I'm going to give this a try again and see if I can get into it... I might be able to pick up a year.. I'll have a look.

Had a note from Angelic saying that his phone failed at posting to the thread but that he can't take a turn for a bit as he's into exams and such. But all is well with D moving forward.
