[Tech] Free (Oldish) Computer Bits

So I've been tasked with emptying my parent's house of old, useless computer bits, as a shiny new family laptop has been bought. This includes the old PC, old parts for previous PCs and the sound system. So, below is a list of things that are to be removed from the house. In a few weeks they will go to the tip, and it will cost me money to be recycled.

So, I'm giving you lot first dibs on anything you want from below, for free. That is to say, if you have a way to get it from here (Sandhurst), my house (Sunbury-on-Thames), London (Waterloo area), or organise somewhere else for me to get it to at some point in the future (most likely Southampton area if I pawn it off on to Vibs to take down ;)) then it's your's for free. If you want it shipped to you, you get to pay for the shipping, and nothing more.

You can ask for some or all of it, or you can have none of it. Either way, it will be gone, so take what you want! I'll remove things from the list when people say they want something.

  • 56K PCI modem
  • 56K serial port modem
  • PCI SCSI adapter (I think)
  • Alcatel PCI ADSL modem
  • 10/100Mbps PCI ethernet card (x2)
  • Firewire PCI card
  • Old Computer:
    • Asus A7V266-E (I think) motherboard
    • Some form of Socket A Processor (I believe around 1GHz?)
    • Gainward AGP GF4 Ti4600 with Dual DVI out and 128Meg
    • Sound Blaster Live! 5.1 PCI
  • 2x 256Meg sticks of RAM (specs to come)

All of this is in good condition. I'm not sure about the speed of the processor as the CRT monitor is dead, so I can't see anything on screen :(

Taken:
  • Cambridge Soundworks DTT3500 Digital 5.1 sound system (which is actually quite nice...) - Ronin Storm
  • 1 Gig (2x 512Meg) Crucial DDR RAM (DDR 333 CL2.5, PC2700U, CT6464Z335 lots of number because I can't be bothered to research it) - Nanor
  • ATI 3D Rage Pro Turbo (WOOO!) - Iron fist
  • Coolermaster Heatsink (CP5-6J31C-01) for PIII (up to 1.6GHz), Celeron (up to 1.6GHz), AMD Athlon (upto 1.4GHz), AMD Athlon XP 3200+, AMD Duron (1.7GHz), Sempron 3000+ - Iron fist
  • Coolmaster ATC(tm) S Aluminium case - PsiSoldier28

Please can I have the Cambridge Soundworks DTT3500?

Yes. As you are in Soton, I shall organise with you a way to get it!

Could I have the RAM, please. :)

Yes! You'll be paying for postage, or getting it from someone at i37, I guess?

I also found 2 more sticks of 256Meg RAM (probably about the same as these 2 sticks Nanor is getting, if people want. Adding it to the list.

if stuff is being thrown in the direction of someone who will be at i37 i can take the CPU cooler and the Rage Pro (is it an AGP or the rarer PCI varient?) off your hands :)

That would also work. I'll pick it up (and hopefully find ALL the cables =/) today, and bring it back to my house in Sunbury-on-Thames. I'll chat with you at some point about getting here!

As for people who want stuff picked up for i37, I'd really like someone who is going, and will be passing me, to say they are happy to take it. I can store stuff in my loft for a while, but the missus isn't too keen on me filing the house with computer bits!

No, it's full tower. I'm going back this weekend, so I'll measure it up, and get the part number (I can't find it anywhere online at the moment), and then let you decide. But for now, it's yours.

The case looks very much like this one, but the front lights are different. But I think that's just a small change in model number. The front lights are just small LED points, not inset like on that link...

I will be able to pick it up either next weekend, or in May some time, and will post it a few days after that (assuming I can find a box to put it in...). It will probably be recorded delivery of some sorts, probably UPS or someone (as I think the Post Office get stupidly expensive after a certain sized box), but will look around to find the cheapest.

Paypal is possible, though I'd rather have a direct money transfer to my account. It's super easy to do if you have online banking, or phone banking, and you can do it in a branch. But if it's easier for you to PayPal, then I guess that's better than nothing! :)

Obviously, it would be a WHOLE lot easier for me if someone picked it up ;) I can get it to London Waterloo, King's Cross, Clapham Junction and pretty much any of the major South London stations if that makes it any easier.
