Tried it out last night.. stick your CD key in steam and you can DL the full client inclusive of the "black" expansion.

If you purchased UT3 at retail, you can type in your product key on the "Activate a Steam Product" feature in the steam client. Steam will update UT3 for free.

Sadly thats a crock, what it actually does it ignore your existing install and start downloading many GB's so you can have a second install from scratch. Those of us on bandwidth capped ADSL will wince downloading over 5GB of data again.

I'd hardly call free stuff with no catch a crock ;)

Yes you need to DL the full thing so I suppose there would be technical implications trying to do an upgrade instead (otherwise they'd offer it).

I deleted my disc install and started the DL off yesterday. Not in any immediate rush for it, but if I really needed it it'd all download in one night anyway.

And change isp; caps are bad mmkay (in a few years most things will be distributed digitally and 5gb will be the least of your worries).

I believe you can copy your UT3 install into the proper spot in your steam directory, and steam will recognize that and only download what you need. Let me see if I can find any info on that.

In other news, it's free to play this weekend. Shall we?

Right, I can't play campaign cause the videos lock up the game for some reason, but I'm good to go for any multiplayer.

Played a few rounds, and I've gotta say this series is in a perpetual downwards spiral. UT99 is where it's at
