In Cryo Sleep
Lets start with a small introduction. Introducing ... me. Possibly the most explorative gamer around. Always trying to break barriers, without breaking the game. A couple of my previous endeavours include being the first ever person to reach the 3rd island in GTA3 without completing the relevant missions or using cheatcodes, I was also the first to get to the second island in Vice City.
Among the first people to discover ways out of maps and into secret buildings in Call of Duty (see www.codjumper.tk for more info).
I even managed to make the pinball escape the table on my old Nokia 3330mobile phone game called Bumper.
Now, Ive escaped the boundaries of Oblivion as well Ill admit that this has been the easiest game to glitch so far, but it was fun all the same.
First, I started off in Bruma. Being the bouncy Khajit that I am, I can jump almost anywhere. In this case, anywhere equates to being on top of all the cottages and then over the city limits. When you escape the city via the wall, without using the exit door, the first thing you notice is that there are no ground textures and that the only things rendered are distant objects and grass. Despite this fact, the ground is still physically beneath your feet, so that you appear to float in midair.
Next, I decided to make way to the hills north of Bruma; the very edge of the map where Cyrodill meets Skyrim. Once I reached the mountains, I started to scale them. Its quite hard to climb mountains when you cant see the ground beneath your feet, so that all took me about half an hour to reach the top. Now, usually when you reach the top of the mountain, you take a few steps inwards and then 'You cannot go this way. Turn back.' appears. However! I discovered that when you glitch the game by jumping out of a city, the limits at the edge of the map disappear, and you can just carry on exploring! I walked over the mountain for a bit more, soon finding the edge of chartered land. About 5 minutes after the summit, I saw this. I was quite amazed by this. Usually developers stop putting in scenery as soon as the boundaries stop, but apparently Bethseda have rendered a decent swathe of Skyrim as well. So on I trek.
After about 20 minutes walking, soon the distant hill of Skyrim in the previous shot is to my left, and when I look forward again, yet more distant land is unveiled.
Of course, the developers inevitably have to stop somewhere, so eventually I reach the end of physical ground and fall through to my death.
However, not to be undone, I give it another shot (having saved it just before I died). Somehow, I managed to surpass the edge and travel on even further into the distance and found another edge of sorts (that is walkable on), but eventually fell through the land again.
However (there's been a few howevers), this time instead of going CRUNCH at the bottom, I land in a pool of water. I swim out of the pool of water (for some reason, the pool was only about 100m square) and find solid land again. I look up and see a big mash of textures that I can walk through. I keep going north, until eventually I reach the edge of the universe. Not to be outdone, i keep walking for another 20 minutes out into the black unknown, grow tired of the black unknown and wait until daytime, before turning round and seeing this (and the other side). Take a few more steps back and, POOF! All the land disappears entirely. I kept walking for another few mintues after that but nothing happened
So there you go, perhaps an insight into Skyrim?
Oh and sorry about the low picture quality. I had to snap all the shots off the telly using my cameraphone.
EDIT: Id also like to add 1) I managed to jump out of the area where you find Garridan's Tears as well. That was boring, though. The land stops into nothingness just shortly after the treeline. and 2) You can escape from any part of the map. The Skyrim adventure was actually the second time I left the map, the first time I climbed out of Anvil and then trekked into Morrowind. Unfortunately, no photographic evidence remains of that escapade.
