Gevlon's fight against slackers and morons

This is a thread for discussion of Gevlon's greatness. Or his cynical approach to humanity and players, if you wish. Personally I think his points of view are interesting, particularly since he is so eager to "show us the money", ie not just talk the talk, but walk the walk.

This post is a good example:

This is the "simple" way of goblinish motivation. You get what you pay for and if you pay well, you always find people who work for you and make your dreams come true. In the "heplfull friendly" guilds the members had little personal motivation to get XP for the guild. They may did some to not be called leeches but stopped there. Why go further than the next guy? Here the performance had direct connection to personal payment.

Hey, :)

Interesting links. Don't quite know what to make of them...

Gevlon's post sidesteps my approach to WoW entirely, so fortunately for me, I can safely ignore it. :D

Sirlin's article is at the heart of how I feel abouit gaming. But playing to win is fun, and there are a great many games where the only way to have fun is to to play to win. In other games, however, the concept of "winning" doesn't even apply. Thus, I have a lot of trouble seeing that as a "contrast".

I haven't read the whole article, yet, though, and I have a feeling there's some real substance there, that's worth the time and effort to absorb...

Cheers,
J.
