Graphics cards

So, recently, bob, thatbloke and I went over the see pHatBambi and Piacular, to put Pia's new PC together (though there was one problem, but if anyone else mentions that in this thread, they get negative rep ;)). Anyway! He got an 8800GTX, and we thought "F*** ME IT'S HUGE!". It is actually just so big.

Then I saw this:

That's an 8800GTX on the left and a dual GPU Radeon X1950 in the middle (single core GPU X1950 on the right).

Now, "F*** ME THAT'S EVEN HUGER!". Yes, huger is now a word, so shush.

And I mean, computer cases are gonna have to be a lot bigger soon... A lot bigger! Does anyone else see a problem with this? Like a mini discussion really. Hmm.

I can't see it being a major issue, this being said as can be seen in my choice of case for Pia i like it big and flashy. ppl will have to be methodical in their buids as cabling will have to be thought through as the graphics card may get in the way etc. however i don't think theres too much troube brewing. just means a move towards the slightly larger case.
get one of those

did i hear the new ATI card? Last i herd the retail card (X2600XT i think was the one refferd to) is 9" and the OEM card is 12" you can find a load of reviews in this forum that i occasionally visit, plus there is a lot of other interesting stuff that can be found scattered throughout that thread.
enjoy :D

ahh the good ol' cases ... my mate got some huge m***** f***** free for sending a picture of him holding a magazine in china, to the magazine company ( he was published in the mag! its running lots of colours, water cooling etc, theres enough space inside the damn thing for 2 motherboards, ( if i knew what it was i'd linky )

but basically, its not really a 'problem' other than Air Flow, if your using fans and not Water,

im sure tha card manufacturers had in mind that they shouldn't really make the card bigger than the motherboard, and the width of the case, i know my Geforce 7950 GT fits fine inside my Coolermaster Stacker 830 ;), i wouldn't see any problems accomadating that large bastard in there too :)

Edit: Oh my god bob, thats Insane O.O

The new Radeon HD 2900XT is about half to one inch shorter in length than the 8800GTX.

I have seen the pics to prove it! (But can't find em now...)

I's also at about £220... Although it is lower performance than the nvidia cards you do seem to get more performance per pound... which is always good :D

Looks like I may be getting one of those when I upgrade...

My new Dell XPS computer that I got recently has one enormous case. Standing next to my old computer I'd say it's about twice the size. It's designed to be very good at keeping the computer cool, and having lots of room for expansion.

It came with a dual GeForce 7900 GS graphics card which are basically just two of the 7900 cards sat in their own PCI express slots.
Big...but there is still plenty of room.
