Demand for violent videogames and an increase in households using only mobile phones, helped prevent retail sales falling as much as forecast last month, according to official figures out yesterday.

Interesting, but I still think they are a bunch of complete pricks for using the phrase "Violent videogames" in the way that they are doing so.

Well tb, to be fair we all play non-violent video games most of the time, don't we?

I mean, I play Battlefield, Titan Quest, Eve, Guildwars, Company of Heroes, Total War, Insta-Gib, The Valve Source Legion and Anime Bowling Babes.

At least one of those is non-violent! What is The Guardian doing?! Why say violent at all indeed! Just say "videogames" and save seven letters. Prefixing videogames when they differ from the norm and aren't violent is a much more efficient use of language.

You need adjectives or the words like Oomph! TM

The fact that game sales are up is a good thing.

I just get the feeling that by saying "violent videogames" rather than just "videogames" they are trying to make it sound like a bad thing. Which it isn't.

And since when was Wii Fit violent?

Considering I play the so-called "violent" videogames pretty much all the time and little else, suddenly I am (according the government and shrinks) a closet psychopath and a potential threat to society...
