I don't mean a game guide, I mean a "what the hell race do I pick to play with THN" etc etc guide

eve is a single universe, where anything goes...

given that it's all a single server the only real difference between the races is the starting ship and the number of jumps to reach the rest of us who play

for instance i am a minmatar character, but i can fly caldari and amarr ships as well as minmatar.
I base out of Caldari space meaning it's about 20 jumps from where i started to where i am now, so you can pick a race that you feel suites you, find out where people are based and set a course (also avoid systems where the security is 0.4 or less as that usually results in death...)

long story short pick whatever takes your fancy, there are no restrictions on moving about, and make sure to avoid low security (0.4 and below)

As long as you play the tutorial stuff and actually pay some attention to it then you'll be fine. If you are interested in getting started get one of us to chuck you a buddy invite so you get a 21 day trial. Then have a look at i40, we have a whole bunch of us all at different stages and in different places in the game.

Racewise it makes very little difference, as IF says. My main bobrek is Amarrian but can also fly minmatar and gallente ships.

in addition, "THN" doesn't really exist in EVE anymore - we've all split up and started doing our own thing...

Silkth, join the channel "TheHavenNet", that's where we all live when online in the EVE 'verse :)

On your chat window, there is a speach bubble in the top right corner, use that to open the join / create channel options :)

THN members are mainly concentrated in one corporation (I beleive that still applies) but there are others whom are in different corporations and even different alliances. We all hang out in TheHavenNet chat channel as a means to keep in touch with one another. Heck, for me thats my only chat connection to most of the havenners on Eve, since I'm living it up in a nullsec alliance right now.

Everyone's pretty sharded now Acid :) bob and I are in Talos Coalition, pretty much everyone from NERF just sort of spread out around the universe. TheHavenNet is pretty much our single joining factor now :p

Main thing to remember: DON'T GO AFK WHILE FIGHTING / FLYING AROUND! :p

You are fine sitting around in high sec unless you have lots of valuables which as a new player you are unlikely to. In missions you want to avoid going afk at least until you get some sexy tanking skills.

Afk in space, one never should.
Safely docked inside stations or a POS forcefield preferable is.
Suicide gankers, rampant run do.

More advice:

* Autopilot is for noobs, unless you are afk-piloting a freighter 20 jumps and it would take a few hours anyway (good ol' 0.3au/s warp speeds ftl).

* Stick to high security space unless you are prepared or unless you love to die a lot.

* Never fly what you cannot afford to loose. This includes over-fitting crappy mining vessels, mission ships, etc. One of my corp members recently fitted out a destroyer for missioning, and lost it within 24 hours of finishing the fit, thus loosing a good 5mil on fits alone.

* If your PC suffers high latency a lot, try to avoid Jita system. In fact best to avoid that entire region (sooo much human trafic)
