Guitar Hero 4

Apparently available "this holiday" (Christmas 2008?), Guitar Hero 4 sounds like it is going to contain a number of the features that makes Rock Band interesting.

According to Eurogamer:

Eurogamer said:
Guitar Hero 4 will reportedly include a set of drums, a bass guitar and microphone support and allow you to create and share your own songs.

Activision has yet to confirm any of these features.

Hmmm... Wonder where they got that idea... And maybe rushing it out ASAP to compete with other games in the same genre?

I'm pessimistic about prices and quality too. However, competition in this area is healthy for the industry if they use it to try to rise above each other.

Guitar Hero: Aerosmith is a completely separate game to Guitar Hero 4. GH:A will be more in the vein of GH3, but with a lot of Aerosmith and Aerosmith-related/inspired/inspiring tracks. I believe GH:A is due out July time.

Eurogamer have a couple of videos on Guitar Hero World Tour's upcoming features. The first is blatant catch up with Rock Band, focusing on character customisation. To an extent, having a few thousand combinations of guitar parts is really only so interesting. However, they do have a video on the music studio feature that forms a new feature in the mainstream of these games: the ability to create your own music. Unfortunately, they don't give enough information to actually tell how it really works but maybe you can make more of it than I could...

Anyways, the videos:

Hurrah, some actual game news we'll find interesting! (I'm looking for good news, if you hadn't already gathered.)

Eurogamer are running a hands on article for Guitar Hero: World Tour and they cover, in more detail than I've seen before, the music creation side of the game.

Eurogamer said:
The way that music-creation works is rather difficult to explain in words, but as soon as you get the chance to have a go, it all becomes clear. You start off in a jam session, where up to four players can choose an instrument - rhythm guitar, lead guitar, bass, synth or drums. You can then all play happily along in E Major on the default settings and make a surprisingly decent noise, or dive into the menus and start messing around with every conceivable aspect of the sound.

And then there's lots more detail to that.

They seem to be of the opinion that, on track list and play-style alone, Rock Band 2 will probably win out, but that the music creation side of Guitar Hero: World Tour will make it incredibly attractive to anyone who finds that element of the game interesting.

They're also impressed by the new instruments.

That's whetted my appetite for some more rawk action! :)

I was pretty hyped about the new drums and music creation stuff, but meh. All their 'big features' lately have been adding the likenesses of various people to the game.

I don't care about their pop culture crap. That's not the game I want. I'll get my music fix elsewhere.

On the contrary! :)

I've got my music exported from RB1 and my preorder should be ready to pick up on Sunday :p

To be honest, I'm not 100% sure it's out here on Sunday or not. EB won't confirm if they'll have it, and the RB1 release in Canada was later than the American one. (I could always just import it again, I guess )

I read something about RB2 having some feature for folks who don't have use of their legs to allow them to play the drums, actually. I'll see if I can find it.
