The jist of it is, the semiconducting properties of Hafnium allow 45nm process CPUs to become feasible, as opposed to the current 65nm process. This improves effiency and reduces wasteage by lost current and heat.
If you're interested, Hafnium is also used in the control rods of the reactors in nuclear powered submarines due to its ability to absorb neutrons.
