Half life episode 2. Not all bad!

Just got this news update on Steam:

A note to owners of Half-Life 2 and Episode 1: If you buy the boxed retail version of The Orange Box, you can simply hand-off the games you already own to a friend. Or, you can give away the games within Steam. When you install the Orange Box, Steam will identify the duplicate games and let you send them as gifts to a friend, which will enable them to download the games from Steam for free.

Yeah, but who do you know that doesn't have HL2 but would be interested in playing it??

I'd still prefer the option of getting just the three new games: Hl2 Ep2, Portal and TF2.

Did we reach the understanding that this only affects people who are buying CDs and not over Steam?

I believe it does only affect purchases of the orange box retail version. I guess (hope) that the games will be priced relative to their individual value on Steam so that it won't put off people who get just HL2:Ep2 etc.

I suspect that this may mean that there's something in the retail box that you won't get with Steam, and I'm not just talking about a DVD here...

mebbe. Who knows???

But that fact that they say that makes me tihnk that there will be something with the "real" version of the game that will be worth getting. we shall see.
