[Tech] Headphones needed!

So, my Phillips ear-buds have died in one ear, as happens with every pair of ear-buds I have ever bought, issue is always something with the wire, so, I have decided I should probably look into getting a pair of wireless headphones or something with bulkier cables.

I've been using ear-buds for quite a while, but I think that's not so good for my ears (not going to inflict TMI on you) so, I'm probably wanting something over-ear.

This will be for wandering around listening to stuff on my (sigh) iPod so needs to be relatively portable, and I'm willing to go up to probably £100 at most, but would love something significantly cheaper, around £20-40 if possible.

Any suggestions? :)

honestly for portable cans i have to say i love the HD201. cheap, with a pretty nice range once bedded in, maybe lacking a touch of bass, but otherwise really nice.
Mine have taken a beating for the last 2 1/2 (april 2009) years and are still working flawlessly.

That's quite reassuring, I've found that with earbuds one of them always dies after about a year, in this case after about 7 months which is no good!

I guess that proper over-ear headphones have thicker cables?

Looks like it'll cost me about £200 to get a good set of wireless headphones, so I think I'll give your suggestion a try and see if it serves me well before I invest so much money in a wireless set. :)

I have the Logitech G930 headset - wireless, awesome, lots of features, awesome bass, decent range, very few issues with it. Cost me £150 though... :)

Hmmm, those look quite funky Doc, not sure how their availability is in the UK though, will keep an eye out though!

Just got confirmation that the headphones that Iron recommended are in the post so I'll give them a shot and see how it goes. :)

Wireless headphones are shit.

Earbud headphones are generally shit.

Noise cancelling headphones are shit.

Beats by dr Dre are shit (and massively overpriced)

Skullkandi are shit.

Brands of headphones that are good:

Sennheiser
Beyerdynamic
Grado

You want sennheisers, basically.

I own 2 pairs of sennheisers, one a (previously) top of the range set of audiophile cans, the other, a set of walking around cans for floaking about in.

What IS true is that open backed headphones offer greater sound quality.

These are what I floak in and are highly recommended. RRP £35 but currently oop, so can be found on internet for around £15 or so.

These are probably what you want now.

Aye, I've definitely given up on earbuds, they're uncomfortable, probably aren't doing my ear-canals any good, and always break. The HD408s look pretty good, I'll give them a try if I have any trouble with the ones Iron recommended. :)
