Any one play this series? Number 4 was a big disappointment for me... but Homm3 is still one of my fave games out there, and homm5 is definitely on my must-have list. There is now a demo for HOMMV out... I am downloading it now and will post my opinions when It has finished downoading :)

The series never really grabbed me so I've only very briefly peered at it years and years ago. Remind me... what's it all about?

Heroes of Might and Magic is a turn-based strategy game where you have cities (or castles) from which you hire heroes to lead the monsters and other units you spawn from various buildings in your city. Each turn you can build a new improvement in your city (so you can upgrade your units or learn new spells or hire new units etc) and send your heroes with units to explore the landscape. There are various different objectives available, with the main one being capture all the opposing forces' castles.

The game features a very cool mix of combat and resource management... somthing I was never able to get right (and hence why after about 4 years of owning HOMM3 I STILL haven't managed to complete the campaigns).

I have had some epic battles in this game, as a powered-up hero with few troops and very powerful speels can be just as powerful as a new (underpowered) hero with loads of troops. The right spell at the right time can make all the difference!

It's a very good game and I have lost whole days to it!!!

There is still a community that plays HOMM3 based at MSN's Zone.com gaming area...

Yup, I found the first part easy where you have to free that Countess thingy woman from prison but I cant get past the part where you defend the city, the enemy has like 5 Devils

I have now managed to do that... and completed the other campaign mission available too! The way to do it is to block in your marksmen so they cannot be gated... and DEFEND in the back corner like hell... just keep concentrating your fire on the devils... get your griffins to battle dive the succubusses, concentrate your ranged fire on the devils then the pit lords, then when they are gone (your griffins will distract the others when the land after killing the succubusses (or is the plural succubi?)...

ALSO!!!! and you MUST listen to this one... make sure that the hero you use to defend is Isabel, NOT Godric. She is so much better you would not believe!

You may find it easier to kill the prison guards with Godric FIRST then take the city... then nip round the corner with isabella, kill the dragons and get the gold mine, (you WILL need the gold, I promise...) then in the city get as many unit producing buildings built as possible.

Expect another attack about 10 days after the first... Again use isabella to defend (you may get away with getting him BEFORE he gets to the city)

After that... you should find that although from time to time you get attacked, you will by then (hopefully) be able to build enough units in your city that you can defend it with Godric AND have a decent-sized army out and about with Isabel

This game sounds quality, Is it sortof like Final fantasy style where you have player in RPG form and you choose which ones to fight with

nope. nothing like that at all... but get it anyway! however for people who have not played any of the HoMM games before you will most likely feel a bit out of your depth in the demo as I don't think there is a tutorial...
