It's lupus! He's got Cardiac manifestations, most likely endocarditis. Do an echocardiogram and get blood cultures.

Also, does anyone else prefer the season one cover of teardrop more than the later ones?

The different Seasons (as far as I can tell) don't have different versions. It's the American/English versions that have different theme songs. The company who show it in America (Fox?) have the rights to Teardrop, so can use it. But only for American territories. Hence, in England, we get to hear a song that is very SIMILAR, but not quite the same.
