This is just a random survey that I wanted to conduct as I've got an ipod touch on the way and have thus began using iTunes. Previously I wouldn't have touched it with a barge pole, but I must admit that after using it for a few days, I'm actually quite impressed with it.

It has a professional gloss to it, nice graphics with cover flow (although admittedly a bit tough to get all the album art), and a nice way to get podcasts. Which I'm thrilled about since I get to listen to the Radio 4 comedy podcast (highly recommended for those who haven't yet tried!)

Of course, it has some setbacks - no WMA support is the biggy for someone who's used WMP for years - but overall I'm pretty happy with it.

So, let us know what you use to play your music and why :)

I use WMP.

Why? because it's on my PC already and plays anything I want it to play.

As for buying new music, I tend to steer clear of singles and will only buy albums - and these I will buy as a real piece of plastic :)

I use foobar to play all my music because it's fast and it has a simple and not too fussy interface. As for video I mainly use WMP. I have iTunes installed to upload mp3s and videos to my ipod but apart from that I don't use it.

Winamp for MP3s, WMP for CDs, MPC for video.

I think KC has the right idea with iTunes. If you're not actually using it to purchase or sync audio, there's no need for it. For playing audio, it's terribly bloated and mostly useless.

MusikCube for, well, music, The Core Media Player for video.

I've been using Winamp ever since I started listening to music on computer, but as I started playing WoW on my laptop I noticed that with Winamp working in the background it was near unplayable and I had to look for a simpler, lighter player. I tried foobar but couldn't find my way through at first glance and couldn't be bothered to learn all the secret arts of it. After that unsuccessful attempt a friend of mine recommended me musikCube and I've been using it since, it works very nice. True, now I mainly use my new desktop for gaming purposes and it wouldn't mind three Winamps running in the background, but hell, I will stick with musikCube. It has some nice features, such as mass auto-tagging, mass file renaming based on tags etc. and I generally quite like it.

As for the video I watch quite a bit of anime and for that I needed something that could work with .mkv's and manage multiple audio and subtitle streams. TCMP does that. I'm aware that VLC is probably better, but again, force of habit is stronger than force of reason.

Songbird from Mozilla. Bit of a resource hog at the moment (but then, it's still in beta), but I love the fact that it works like Firefox when it comes to extensions and the likes.

If the thing allows me to listen to god-like voice of Eric Adams, to heavenly voice and words of Saga, to titanic tones of Sabaton, to hammer-hard riffs of Hammerfall... than every programe is good. And if a "programe" makes me wait... to "aply to the format" like ITunes - its bad... every second that passes betwean the moment of dubble-clicking on WarriorsOfTheWorld.mp3 to the point where music hits my ears is a wasted time - and that is bad.
So basicly WMP - all I do is find the file and play it - the end

i'm using iTunes, as des says, it has a nice sheen to it. As far as finding the artwork I havn't found that too difficult, although it is considerably easier on the mac...

I dont see why people get in a massive fuss about Itunes. I know this sounds rude but alot of people dont use it outof spite, just to seem different to everyone else even though its perfectly good. Especially when you bounce files off of other Mac made products like LogicPro etc. Its very speedy indeed and easy to use overall.

Again, iTunes is fine if you're using it to purchase or sync stuff. It's a bloated piece of crap if you don't need those features and are instead using it as a player.
