So far the dungeons have been going well, sort of (yeah im a bad culprit for wipes :) )

And I found this interesting post on the WOW forums.

How to deal with Trash mob groups | 5/30/2006 5:12:56 PM PDT

How often is it that you find yourself wanting to repeatedly bang your head against your keyboard after the 6th,7th,8th wipe of an instance? Its not just just the annoyance of corpse-runs and repair bills but the fact that you know that 90% of the time that wipe could have easily been avoided. PUG groups are notoriously bad when compered to grouping with guild members/friends and the simple reason is that in most PUGs people are not used to playing with each other and so have no idea how to work as a team.
When Blizzard besigned the game im sure they intended that the "bosses" would be the most challenging part of an instance and the normal monsters would offer a mild challenge along the way. But It seems to be the the other way around in most PUG groups as almost all of wipes are caused by these "Trash mob" groups. These groups are actually incredbly easy to clear aslong as the party are working to the same plan and as a team.
Below is what I would say is the standard proceedure to dealing with them is.

Before you start the instance make sure you know who the Main tank(s) is and who the main assist is. If you dont know what a main assist is theres a very good guide on the warrior forums.

When dealing with elite mobs
Stage one> The the Crowd controllers pick different targets to CC (mage&sheep, warlock&banish)[make sure you do pick different targets, mobs with 2 sheeps and a sap on are sadly not that rare]

Stage two> The main assist picks a target(hunters mark comes in very useful here)

Stage three> The main tank does a quick check to see that everyone is ready. A verbal check is not required, assume that if they have a full health, a decent amount of mana and if they havn't otherwise said so, they are ready to go.

Stage four> The main tank + off tank(s) charge in and begin gaining aggro on any of the un-assigned mobs. This is shortly followed by the main assist who engages its target.

Stage five> The rest of the party then piles dps onto the main assists target, no dps should be on any of the tanks targets and especially not the cc'ed mobs:P.

Stage six> Once the main assists target is down, he chooses one of the cc'ed mobs and breaks the cc. Only the main assist should be doing this. Then repeat stage five and six until all the cc'ed mobs are down.

Stage seven> Then, and only then, the rest of the party should engage the tanks targets. By then the tanks should have enough aggro for you too nuke them down.

The other veriation to this would be that the warriors charging isn't possible(it would pull other mobs etc)
In this case either the tank or a hunter should pull the group in stage four using a ranged weapon instead of the tanks charging in. Apart from that it stays the same.

When dealing with mixed elites and non-elites
Usually when there is a mix of elites and non-elites, there are few enough elites to not worry about cc. The rest stays the same except once the tanks have a good emount of aggro, any party member with aoe skills uses them to bring down the non-elites.

When dealing with Non-elites
No CC required, the tank just pulls and uses a aoe aggro skill (demo shout, thunderclap etc). Then all classes that can pile aoe damge onto the mobs. The tanks are not expected to hold aggro when dealing with non-elites. Sometimes it's possible to run round a corner so the the mobs lose los and have to follow you. This concentrates then into a smaller area and makes aoeing them alot easier.

There are other ways of doing it, but when in a PUG, this is the easiest and safest way.

Gj, you just learnt how to take down nearly every mob group in the game and can (hopefully) look forward to a less wipe filled wow life:D. Now you just got make others follow the same plan(which can be harder than it sounds)

Ta for that Fury. Fortunately it looks like we're doing it mostly right - our tactics "when planned" follow the above.

Of course sometimes we just get bored and I end up tanking :)

In addition it should be noted that pulling an npc generates bonus aggro, making it more difficult for the other members of the group to attract its attention *looks at haven, glances at the floor... slaps him on his gnarled staff*.

Aside from that... Cool.
