I came across a thread like this on Wowhead and it made me laugh to think of all the noobish things I used to do and it got me wondering of all the noobish things everyone used to do!
So with Wrath being all new and shiny and having to learn new stuff I thought id make a thread for everyone to laugh at other peoples stupidity.

so...

I was such a noob when I started, I ...

* had no idea about how gear worked and used to equip grey cloth items on my pally...in my 20's.

* (corpse) ran from Silvermoon to UC

* couldnt figure out why the mob that was same lvl as me and has a gold dragon over his picture was killing me all the time.

* though 'suggested players' meant I could group with people or just do it on my own. Also didnt go to many instances unless there was at least 1 person I knew. My first instance was BFD and i was nearly kicked because i kept attacking yellow mobs. :/

* didnt discover about being rested until my 40's

* Add-ons were evil and wanted to destroy my computer

* Only figured out the purpose of Righteous Fury after the tank asked me to take it off because i was aggroing everything (Cheers Nero! rotf)

* My first guild master (Blood Dragon for life, lol) asked if i wanted a tabard, had no idea what he was talking about so I said no thanks.

* Would repair my items individually

* My pally talent build in my 30's looked something like 5/8/8. Didnt know each tree had specific roles.

* Solo'd RFC in my late 20's took me about 2+ hours, died every 15 mins or so just so I could do 1 quest because I didnt know I could abandon.

There is prob loads more...

---> hmmm don't think I was ever a noob :) lol @ Skcornnelg

(edit)
- I ran to Thunder Bluff, because my cousin had started a Tauren and found this "amazing city. ( we started playing together)

- I was determined to learn spells on my warrior coz my cousin had them on his shammie

-I didn't train for ages coz the trainer in starter area had nothing more for me to learn ( I kept checkin back)

-I thought people in guilds paid more to play so didn't join one when asked :)

It took me about 6 months playing the Qman (about half that at 60) before I realised I could learn swords weapon skill from the weapon master and actually equip and use swords.

i was such a noob i rolled an ally to start? then things got a bit better and i made a horde charcter, but still a noob made a hunter, got till lvl 60 pre TBC before i realised it was so fing boring, i can say i did not start using the AH till about lvl 45 as i could not be arsed to travel there to get rid of stuff when a vendor would take it from me, got my first mount at lvl 60 as money was a problem, perhaps not selling stuff in AH did not help, the list goes on but biggest mistake must have been throwing my hearthstone away to make bag space and not replacing it for another 40 lvls. lol

- I rolled on daggers saying I sometimes go melee (was a mage that time)
- I thought AH is for 70s only to get rid of their epics
- I tried to solo RFC at level 15

...thought shamans could tank...
...with a 2-handed weapon...
...in leather.

...worked by way up to exalted with Frostwolves to get my Frostwolf mount... took me about 2 months.
3 weeks alter, the honor system was implemented.

...solo-grinded my way from 50 to 60 as resto shaman, then specced elemental at 60.

...still CL-pulled instances with my ele shammy in my 60:s

  • Put points into shield specialisation on my shaman before level 20 to tank low level instances.
  • Rolled shaman as The Haven had NONE active when I joined. :p
  • Spent several hours trying to grind a pair of low drop rate green axes because they were the best for another 10 levels, only to get those 10 levels faster than I spent grinding.
  • Believed I was a viable class in PvP.
biggest mistake must have been throwing my hearthstone away to make bag space and not replacing it for another 40 lvls. lol

I did that at 30, but I got Astral Recall ;)

I was such a noob when I started that:

- I tanked the instances I was in (as a holy spec)
- I didn't know you could respec talent points
- Until level 50 I never actually healed during encounters/fights, only afterwards
- I thought Holy was the paladin's only spec

On my 1st druid I didn't realize there was a free flight path back to the main city so spent 20 mins grinding to earn enough silver to pay for the flight back and then didn't have enough for my skills :p

When I first started playing the game on my nelf, I ran all the way from the start area to goldshire to play with my mate, and when I got to wetlands, it was nighttime, and all the crocolisks were level ?? and I thought it was because it was night time, so for about 20 levels, I didn't play when it got dark, I also leveled to 40 as holy on my priest because I saw a level 40 when I was like level 15 running around holy novaing everything, and I thought it was so cool (up until that point, I'd never actually used talent points =P) Needless to say, I was pretty n00b :D.

Be afraid of the dreaded Were-crocolisks, who turn ?? by night! :D

When I started I was so noobish I invested all points in arms...
...although I was dual-wielding...
...and tanking that way...
...only to actually complete the instances like that...
...with a feral druid healing.

Needless to say, we were all friends starting at the same time and boy, was it a blast! :)

EDIT: I still wonder how on earth we managed to complete instances like that! Scary!

I was such a noob when I started, and nothing has changed.
:) Yes, that.

Actually, I don't remember what a noob I was. Probably not that bad of one, as I had Bright teach me plenty of stuff right when I joined...

Yet, I'm still such a noob, that even with a level 61 BM hunter I still can't order my pet around in combat effectively :)

Honestly, I think the pet command system needs some heavy revamping. Things like making it run back to you, stop attacking for a while... It's a pain, if you ask me.
