IBM and the new supercomputer

Well IBM is currently creating the worlds fastest supercomputer named 'Roadrunner', able to achieve 'petaflop' speeds.

To be honest though, with all those processors, some games would probably still lag!

Hmm, i can't drool over that. I won't be able to afford the power bill anyway and i bet it's lousy at singlethreaded apps like games.

Besides cell it'll also use regular opterons, as they're better suited to supercomputing than Intel's chips, for their lack of an FSB and a builtin memory controller.

It's not just raw performance that is important, with such large numbers of processors you can easily get a power draw in the gigawatt range. It's in petaflops per gigawatt that this design scores very well. It's power that defines the practical limit of supercomputer designs.


Just give me a cryo'ed, OC'ed Core2. I don't need much to be happy.
