Besides cell it'll also use regular opterons, as they're better suited to supercomputing than Intel's chips, for their lack of an FSB and a builtin memory controller.
It's not just raw performance that is important, with such large numbers of processors you can easily get a power draw in the
gigawatt range. It's in petaflops per gigawatt that this design scores very well. It's power that defines the practical limit of supercomputer designs.
Just give me a cryo'ed, OC'ed Core2. I don't need much to be happy.
