...what would it be?
I know pretty much everyone knows a whole bunch of things that they'd have changed about WoW if they could, and I mean important, meaningful changes (not just "buff this" or "nerf this" or whatever); after I read through a developer interview thing on MMO-Champion earlier where one of the Devs was asked what things they would go back and redo about Wrath if they could, it got me thinking about what one or two changes I'd most want to make, and what other people would want.
Silly speculative thread, yes, but I'm also bored, smacked off my face from FAR too much sugar in my first cuppa of the day (I'm fairly sure I was so tired that I added sugar three times without realising), and it seemed like an interesting question to pitch at people.
Off the top of my head right now... for me, it'd be between two things. The first would be a change to professions to give them far more diversity of things to make, usable at all levels of content (and not just one or two new generic recipes added as 25-man raid drops or expensive faction purchases every new tier of content), maybe upgradable over time (think the Burning Crusade Blacksmithing specialist weapons, but more so), and some of them involving big epic questy things to procure materials and craft the item.
The second would be the reintroduction of class quests in a big way; I've done the level 60 Paladin mount quest, I've done the level 60 Hunter epic weapon quest chain for Rhok'delar and Lok'delar (starts with an item drop from the penultimate boss in Molten Core, sends you out into the world with NO hints to go find some quest NPCs, and then makes you do some wickedly difficult fights entirely on your own (not even allowed the pet for most of it) to get a very unique and at-the-time powerful pair of weapons), and I'm nearly in a position to do the level 60 Priest Anathema/Benediction chain. And looking back at those, and some of the class quests you do while leveling, I really feel they dropped the ball with not putting in loads more! Imagine if you had some mandatory class quests for critical skills every 10-15 levels which mixed epic story, unique challenges that can't just be facerolled, and mechanics that help you better learn to use the unique elements of your class and excel with them? And imagine if you also periodically got optional quest-chains for your class to get shiny fun things, kind of like with the Mage quest for getting Polymorph: Pig and suchlike, but bigger, more epic?
I'm kind of a sucker for epic stories and cool rewards unique to specific classes or professions that required some kind of dedication and skill to attain, and aren't just something you can faceroll through or grind badges for
Edit: I know I said two changes rather than the one the title would indicate, but you could sum them up under one heading of "bring back and amplify the epicness of old", I guess
