Images not loading properly

Nanor posted a screenshot of how very few images had loaded for Games.THN and it really screwed up the layout. We all laughed and pointed (well, okay, we didn't quite) but I've started to get a similar issue though not as serious.

This is my collection point for reports of this issue. Please vote in the poll to let me know how widespread this problem is or if it remains isolated / infrequent.

The poll results are public so we can easily get back to people who report serious issues frequently.

It's odd. Last night none of the images in the quick reply pane were loading, which really messed it up. Right now the bold pic isn't there. I assume if I visit again a few hours from now, it'll all be working again. On the whole, I've had very few issues.

Yeah, it smells like an issue that is split across how the server delivers image objects and how your browser cache interprets what it has and what it needs to display at any one time.

All in all, shift-refresh always fixes any page I'm looking at, though.

There isn't a "not when I'm using ie7b2" option. But when I am, not many pictures load properly.

Ah, right, that's good (and bad) to know. We may need to look more seriously at that when IE7 goes on public release.

Correct what I said earlier, all of the little buttons by the sub-forums link on the main page are gone. Also as I type this I notice that my bold and quote buttons have gone.

There's also something happening similarly with the comedy site - sometimes images just don't load in the browser - and it's only started to happen recently (last week or so). If you have any problems let me know and I'll see what I can do to fix them.

i did play hitman 2 quite extensively, the only bit that annoyed me was that you couldnt wear the womens clothes http://games.thehavennet.org.uk/images/smilies/frown.gif

Is the url one of the problems people have been noticing?

Ah, I'm glad for this thread, I didn't say anything because I thought it was just me. Every page has the majority of images missing for me, replaced with the alt-text instead. If I want to see them a Ctrl+F5 usually fixes it, but only for that page. Browse back to it later and they don't appear again.

I've been able to see all the images perfectly on my home PC (I'm using firefox).
However, at my work, the computer there was showing all the images properly, but today every image except the amber logo was not showing. I have no idea what browser the computer uses. It's some locked down system that has a timer on it that increases as you stick money into the computer

Yes quite a lot of problems with Firefox. None with Explorer.

Firefox isn't loading a large amount of icons and my quick reply box is a bit fucked at the moment too.

Well, i'm using explorer, but I can't see any pictures, smilies or buttons on the quick reply function. The only one I can see is the big one right up top in amber that says TheHavenNet etc. etc.

Thank you for the responses everyone. Looks like this problem is substantially more widespread than it at first appeared and I wonder if it is getting worse for some...

I had a preliminary chat with Haven about this and he has an inkling what the problem is, but the unfortunate situation is that if it is the problem he thinks then the fix will impact a little on site performance. However, having a site lacking some or even many (or even all?) images is clearly quite a problem.

I'll ask him to take a look at it and see if we can banish this issue.

Having said that I just visited the forums just now to see the new post indicator images to the left of each forum to be missing on the main page. What a random problem.

I've actually got nearly all the images replaced with text descriptions what they do at the moment
