Insurgency Beta 2

I've had about an hour's play. The gameplay seems a bunch smoother, thus far, but the servers I've played on don't seem terribly stable with resets occurring every 20 minutes or so. Might just have been bad server choices, of course, but there's not much to choose from just yet.

And a collection of other random thoughts...

Still as brutal as ever. "Hmm, are you friend or foe?" *bang*bang*bang* "Uh, I guess you were a foe..." Full auto from standing with an AK kicks like a bastard. Good luck hitting anything. Bursted from a crouch is more sensible.

Fair bit of accidental TKing as people get back into it / learn the model differences.

New customisation system for models.

Squads have been revamped and seem more sensible. More rifleman slots available, is my impression, and less RPGs...

Maps have been redone. Often more routes added, which really helps. Saves being murdered in the same two choke points again and again.

A pleasant lack of nade spam, thus far. Good job as nades are lethal.

So far, seems decent enough. Server resets are an arse, though.

Right, bed!

Turns out it was bad server choices, after all.

We have noticed that a lot of the servers experiencing frequent crashes are running Insurgency with several third-party plug-ins and changes to the squad and player classes scripts.

Insurgency Beta 2 does not work properly if squad and player classes scripts are modified or replaced by custom ones.

There's been a recent server-side patch that has really improved the stability of the game, for me. Looks like it helps Linux servers most (yay!) with some Windows servers still having issues. Largely, though, the game is playing well. Now, to work on that teamwork... ;)

I admit I've not given this much attention in the past couple of weeks. Mass Effect, Crysis and TF2 have been gobbling my time.

However, it's good to see that they're still hard at work resolving server and gameplay issues in beta 2. Keep an eye out for 0.2c servers to take advantage of the latest fixes.
